Auto to Manual Heat 84 Carrera

Wondering if anybody has done this before. I have the auto heat option in the car and want to just work the flapper boxes manually. I ditched the footwell blowers as well. Do I just need the mechanism with the two red levers for controlling the flapper boxes? Where can I get this mechanism?

Thoughts - pics?

I have not. There was an earlier thread where someone was going to do the conversion. I do not know what happened. You could back-date the heat and do away with the footwell blowers and the blower motor. There will be some wiring changes to accomplish that, I believe (some one tell me if I am wrong on this). The Control Module (black box between the seats) also has electronics for other systems so I do not think you can just chuck it.
Maybe others who are more knowledgeable will chime in.

It was me in that other thread, and I still hope to do it, but it is a ways down the project list....

Cheers

I believe you can use the manual set-up (levers, etc) from an older car. If you keep your rear blower motor you'll have to wire up the micro switch in the lever assembly to operate your blower. There may be more to it - electrical wise - than that with an '84. You might be able to find the heater lever assembly off an older car at a Porsche salvage yard.

I've done it, I bought manual levers at an autojumble (don't know what model they're from, they just looked right) and new control cables. Easy job, much better than auto. You'll lose your blower though, although I guess you could run a switch to it if you wanted.

I have ditched all the blowers anyway - I was going to pick up a set of manaul levers from Pelican, just not sure of what and all I need.

USA SC has a blower on the engine and the manual levers, maybe the carrera engine blower would be operable using the same controls. there's no separate switch or anything, just pull up the levers and the blower goes on.

Does the SC have a micro-switch on the levers to engage the blower???

Blower, my car does not even have a fresh air blower let alone a rear blower any more! . However I still need heat and in my quest for simpicity I am thinking about tossing a perfectly working 10 positoin auto heat controller for the ability to it manually! Maybe I am nuts?

Cheers

I know the auto heat controller has other electronics in it as well. Check before just dumping the whole thing.
