915 shift shaft seal
Can the shift shaft seal on a 915 tranny be changed while still in the car? Mine is dripping a bit, not enough to warrant pulling it to fix, but if it can be swapped while still in the car, I may as well do it.

Joe,
Yes, it can be done with transaxle still in the car. Here is the Pelican Tech Article: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/mult_shifter_rod_seal/mult_shifter_rod_seal.htm

I have a similar problem and when I discussed this option with my local wrench he indicated that he has not had much success with replacing this seal in place with the 915 tranny's due to the tight quarters and the difficulty in getting the new seal seated squarely.
Has anyone actually tried this and had good sucess? Any tips for the newbie?

That is what I was thinking. I am a certified tech, and it looked to be too tight to be able to do it correctly in the car.

Has anyone pulled this off in a 911 without removing the trans?
Thanks

Yes, I did it several years before Pelican, when I had the coupler off to replace the bushings. It had only leaked a bit ... maybe a 4" circle on the tunnel floor, but it was an easy job, and a PVC pipe DIY driver & small brass mallet did the job perfectly! No leaks afterwards ...

Good idea with the PVC pipe. I'm going to try it the same way
Thanks Warren!
