Glass scratch remover question
I did a search here and didn't find much but has anyone out there had success with any product (s) that will remove small scratches from windshields/door glass -these are visible to the eye only when direct sunlight shines on them but you can't feel them with a fingernail. Just asking, thanks guys. Jerome

I have tried many over the counter products and nothing works. I know that glass installers have some type of compound that they use but really don't know if they would do it. Ernie 81 SC

It's called cerium oxide, IIRC and is available on the Net thru various suppliers. You buy a cylindrical, hard felt buffer used in a drill motor applied vertically with a slurry made from the powder. The saying goes, if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, it's too deep for polishing.
I just googled CO and there's a bunch of info and sites. |

Just thinking of the name "jewelers rouge" suggests a polishing compound probably hard enough to polish diamond, which would surely scratch glass. Just some useless info, but glass has a Moh's hardness of 5.5 while diamond has a hadness of 9 or 10 (one of the hardest minerals), which is why I come to this conclusion. I would think to polish glass you would need a mineral (our compound) with a harness less than 5.5 such as the minerals Fluorite or Apatite. This is just my thinking from a Geologic point of view. Zeke, correct me if wrong. After all, you are the glass expert
