No fuel - can not hear fuel pump running

Hi all,

I have a 79 930. It has been converted to electronic fuel injection. It is running a tec 3 electromotive system.

3 or 4 years ago I spun a bearing in the car and last weekend I just put the fresh motor back in.

It cranks, but does not start. I can not hear the fuel pump running, so I pulled one of the fuel connections. Sure enough, dry.

So, I go up under the hood, pull the fuel pump relay out part way and put power to the signal wire and the fuel pump starts running.

So, with that said, why will the fuel pump not start running when I turn the key. What is holding me back on this one.

Thanks

Ed

Bad relay?

Could be corroded/dusty from sitting around.

Ed, weren't the cis cars originally wired so the fuel pump wouldn't run until it got a signal from the cis? I believe the pump starts running when you start cranking it over and the signal would come from the air flapper movement.
On a cis car, the pump won't run with just the key on.

JohnJL, I can give the relay power and it clicks and the fuel pump runs. I am providing power to the front side of the relay, not the back.

Group911,

This is not the first time the car was running with the efi. I did not just change over to the electromotive. I added the efi a year before I spun the bearing and it ran fine then, so it is something different than I had then.

That being said, I may have tapped into relay and the electromotive is supposed to be signaling it ? so how did other guys who efi'ed do that ?

Thanks

Ed

OK,

I have a new question.

If I was going to tie into the stock wiring for the fuel pumps so that the EFI computer would run the pumps, where would be the best/most likely place I would do that.

One of two things, either I will find my tie in and repair the connection, or I will run a new line from the ecu to turn them on.

Thanks

Ed
