Question Pre-74 dash in a 74-77?

I am having a hard time finding a good early car candidate for my project so I am thinking of buying a narrow body 74-77 and doing a backdate.

Question: will the dash for a pre-74 fit in a 74-77? Also, are these hard to find/expensive?

TIA.

Yes, they fit. I have a 74-77 dash in both of my early cars.

Pre-74 dashes in good condition is nearly impossible to find. Figure $800-1000 if you do.

oops...maybe I was unclear. It's the other way around. For example, will a 72 dash fit into a 74?

I understood. It works both ways.

The dash from a 1969-1975 is the same part.
In 1976 it looked and mounted the same EXCEPT there was no speaker grill- it was smooth with no openings. Some people erroneously refer to these as "RS dash pads" += NO such thing

Now here is an important note: The factory for a while offered replacement new dashpads with the speaker holes punched thru, rather than a separate removable grill. Either is acceptable, but the purists like the more fragile removable rectangular grill style. BTW- new ones were $1250-1300 last time we checked with the dealer (with removable grills- but mounting holes are a little different)
