I need (not want ) a triptonic

First off I want to thank everyone in advance for your advice, knowledge and experiences that you've had driving a tip. I'm having my rt. ankle surgically fused in Jan. 06 and I need to continue driving a 911 (964) while I heal after surgury. My plan is to get into one for just a short time and than turn it and return to driving a manual again. Some of the initial info that I've gotten is that the 90-92 had shorter gearing and the shifter is on the floor. I've also been told that they will live for a very long time (if maintained) and that the performance is alittle bit softer that a manual. Just tell me what your experiences are and have been with these car.
Thanks alot,
Steve

BTW - My really good friends call me ILEAN because my left leg (the good one broken due to an earlier softball accident) is 1-1/2" shorter than the right.
That's me on the right.

I know its not a 911, but my wife has a '01 tip boxster (she has a MISERABLE commute around DC everyday). Its actually a really fun car - it even does ok at the track. If your not going to keep it for long it might be worth a try. I understand the newer tips are much better than the early ones. I can't compare as its the only tip I've ever driven.

BTW, no one start on boxster bashing. Her car is so much fun I ask myself everyday why Im still driving my POS VW to work. I'd buy one myself if two of them woudn't look silly in the driveway (plus, Im a diehard hard top guy - come on Cayman!)
