OEM roll bar replacement on a 1970 Targa 911T

I found a OEM roll bar part #911 565 001 45 GRV through Porsche and waited until it came from Germany.
I received the part and the #911 565 001 40 GRV.
Ok so here is the real problem. The roll bar dosn't fit. We measured the old bar before cutting it out (not a easy job) and when we put the new roll bar in the lip on the bar that you would think that fits (lays) on the body is too low (at least 1"). To get the doors to close and fit right we have to lift the roll bar up so that the lip is not on the body. It just dosn't look right. Any help that I can get will be really appreciated.

Jack,

Here is a picture of my '71 with the quarter panel removed as a reference for you. I see the 1" higher lip.

I have the new ...001 40 GRV bar that you received. I should know in a week or two if my body shop has similar problems.

By the way, are you replacing the closing plates 911 501 203 40 and ...204 40 that go on the outside? I think they may help locate the bar. I got them from Gary at Parts Obsolete recently (NLA from Porsche). The plate is removed in this photo.

I hope this helps...

Kirk

PS: What are you doing about the pin receivers? Can they be salvaged from the old bar?

Just to close the loop, here's a picture of my welded in roll bar.
