Dumb doing it on an open road. A couple of weeks ago a group of us were out in Marathon, Texas for a few days of bicycling. First day was supposed to be from Marathon towards Ft. Stockton and back but they were running a closed road race so we changed plans. Last year they set a record. 210 average for the run from Ft Stockton to Sanderson. Car was a "street legal" Winston Cup car. Open road race like those morons did doesn't pass for me.

That open Road race I believe you are talking about is the Big Bend Open Road race, I just heard about it a couple weeks ago. It sounds alright and the Highways are closed off by the PD..I was reading a little off of their web page...http://www.bborr.com/home.html

Yep, that looks pretty dumb to me. I'm all for barrelling down the road at ridiculous speeds, but not with traffic. And the last thing I want at even 100mph is a buddy is the passenger seat cheering me on. At those speeds what you need is concentration - full, complete concentration. No radio, no waving to the next car, no cheering section. ok, maybe an instructor helping you hit the apex

Thanks Phil. That's the event. Couple of good looking Porsches there this year. Lots of vettes. Also a nice reproduction Shelby Daytona. No accidents reported at this years event. Looks like fun.

To all aspiring videographers. Background music should be just that, background. It would have been nice to hear a little six-cylinder music.

Better yet we could have heard the police siren as these idiots got pulled off the road.

There's a good chance that's actually Kilometers per hour actually.
Quite a few of the Gumball guys are from Europe... I've ridden with a couple of the Gumball 3000 guys on the Nurburgring. Very fast, very good, LOVE to have a very good time, not at all what I would call "stupid". But MEGA-fast on roads with traffic isn't what I would call smart either... If that WAS Kmph, 200 kilometer/hour = 124.2742384 mile/hour (mph). Which looks a little more believeable from the video ....

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() rexav8r, Early in the video, the speedos are showing kph. But the speedo at the very end frames definately shows 206 Mph. (I clicked through that last segment "frame by frame" to be sure)

Oh boy,......here we go......
An people wonder why Porsche drivers are called pricks.....? Was that driving/passing on the shoulder as the semi honked? Reminded me of the Player's Run: http://www.playersrun.com/history/index05.html Started here in Seattle, cops nailed the goons for doing 120 plus a few miles into the run. Are you a playah? ![]() ![]() This stuff should be fun, but stupid speed ***** belongs on the track.

I am all for driving fast, but that is just plain irresponsible, not to mention the interstate surface just has too many imperfections when traveling at those speeds. When I was much younger I was known to drive inexcess of 140mph on the highway late, late at night, not bright I know. Ahh the recklessness of youth. The highway was littered with debris and various potholes. I was lucky.

Banned but not out, yet..

In my teens and 20's I would have said - "Total killer!", now that I have a few years under my belt, I would have to say "Potential killer/s". This type of idiocy does not belong on public roads where there are too many uncontrolled variables and too great a risk to innocent (and stupid) life. (Note: Darwin is always waiting for future award winners.)
