Porsche Crest Got pics of engine pieces that you guys requested

As far as I can see, I'm only missing the downpipe and muffler?

I have most of the hardware in a few boxes too.
So what do you guys think I should do. Rebuild this engine, or swap it with another? Does swapping in another engine affect the value of the car?
The camera was full, so I didnt get a chance to take pics of the car, but I will take pics tomorrow. Let me know what you guys think.

what's that piece of wood in the 3rd pic from the bottom? there was another one which went behind the pedals, but i cant figure this one out yet. From my 2nd post, in the 3rd pic from the top, that part next to the spark plugs, is that a spare part for the fuel dizzy? looks a little different from the one on the intake stuff, just wondering if this goes anywhere, or is a spare part? Whats that long metal piece in the 4th pic from the 2nd post? The one just under the plug wires
Also just noticed I didnt take any pics of the clutch, so the clutch and pressure plate are there too.

The piece of wood is a front floor board. It was probably removed to get at the pedals . The long metal bar is a rear sway bar or the 2 pipe assembly is part of the front oil cooler loop. I would swap in a good 3.0 engine from a SC . It,s a bolt in without any wiring changes or any of the complications of a later 3.2 or larger. The 3.0 is much faster than a 2.7 and will outlive all the other sizes. It will probably increase the value of a mid year car as the 2.7 has a poor endurance record with frequent and expensive rebuilds which the 3.0 does not.

So that's what's in all the boxes I have stuffed in every corner.

Damn. That sorta puts things in perspective. I thought I was gonna rebuild a motor in one half of a two car garage. Looks like I really need the whole friggin' place.

lol I didnt kill the car, I bought it like this. But what's so scary about all this stuff being apart? I mean it can't be that bad? But I'm thinking of selling everything and getting a 3.0 as alot of you guys suggested. This engine had 107k miles on it and it had blow-by, that's why the P/O tore it apart to rebuild it. So how much would I be able to get out of all this stuff? A rough estimate at least, even if the little things dont sell. And does the tranny bolt up to the 3.0? What parts are the thermal reactors?
thanks alot for al the replies guys

Thermal reactors = the parts next to the intake. 3 flanges in and 1 out.

The trans and clutch are the same size from 1972 to 86. You need a 3.0 with heat exchangers and a muffler.Try and find one with the tensioners updated. Ditch the thermal reactors. You should be able to get several hundred from your leftovers. The cooling fan you have is a upgrade for an earlier 2.7 and is worth something.I need 2 rear swaybar endlinks if you find extras.

I hope you also got the instructions with that thing I'd look in the glovebox.
I also suport the 3.0 swap I love mine. It's not the fastest thing on the road but it'll get your killing done

If I were you I'd look for a nice used 3.0 as johnsjmc suggests, but if you have the extra cash, why not rebuild the 2.7? You'll be able to sell it for much more freshly rebuilt than in pieces, and it would be fun and a great learning experience.
