Engine Casting Question
 

I am looking at a 65 911. I know its not the original engine. The casting number is 901.105.111.0R. There is a decal on the top of the motor that says 911T 2000 cc and has dual webbers. What are the possible cars this motor came out of? Thanks

Are you sure they are Webers and not Zeniths? A '65 would not have had Webers as original equipment, whereas the 911T had Zeniths.

The best way to tell is to post the engine number for us, it's located on the vertical surface to the right of the fan.

Got any pictures of this '65?

John is correct, give the engine S/N and Type number.

A 2.0 911T could be a ’68 non-USA 911T or a ‘69 911T USA or RoW. All these came with Weber 40IDT3C carburetors. Is it an aluminum or magnesium case?

The number I got was 6195383. This is out of a '68 911T US Targa right? Is there anything special about this engine? Oh and yes I am positive they are webers as the name is casted into the side of them. Thanks

The S/N says it is a 69 T engine type 901/16 US only and came with webers. 110 Hp engine. The confusion in year is probably because production is from August 68 to July 69 for 69 cars. It could be from a targa or coupe.

Is a ’69 911T USA Type 901/16. Yes, it originally came with Weber 40IDTP-3C and -3C1. The engine could have originally been installed in a 1969 911T Porsche coupe, Karmann coupe or Porsche Targa bodies.

The ’65 and early ’66 911s has Solex carburetors (the circulating type with two mechanical fuel pumps on the left cam.) In late ’66 they changed to Webers (your 901/05). In ’67 (including 911S) they continued with Webers. The ’68 911T, 911, 911L, and 911S all had Webers. In ’69 only the 911T had Webers and the 911E and 911S had MFI. In both ’70 and ’71 the 911T had Zenith carburetors while the E & S had MFI. In ’72 & ’73 the 911TV (not USA) had Zeniths while the 911TE (USA) had MFI as did the E & S.

Thanks! Grady, for the clarification. I thought the Zeniths were used all the way back-- the gentleman's statement "911 T 2000 CC" should have been a clue that it was a '68 or '69.
