strut brace choice

Gentlemen please enlighten me.

What is your choice of front strut brace?

I would like to go the elephant triangulated but as my car is right hand drive, and I don't want to drill any extra holes, I am leaning towards the basic brace from elephant racing.

What do you think?

A very well-respected Porsche alignment shop here in Los Angeles recommends the bar from Tarrett.

Tyson posted his favorites - I'm on the thread as I asked him the ques. You could search on those names.

IIRC, he like the Elph. brace for certain cars, and the RennLine one for other cars - diff. was the powerbrake thing or something...

I think Rennline can make a triangulated strut specifically for RHD cars. The diagonal strut bolts to the brake booster tower floor. You have to request it though as they are designed for the US market.

Otherwise any horizontal unit will do. Go light. Chuck's is great and you can buy the 2nd piece seperately later if you change your mind about drilling.

I drilled my car. No biggie other than making sure you cut your carpet carefully (which I didn't and now am at the mercy of my significant other halve's sewing skills.....)

Excellent Gentlemen,

Does any of your good selves have a picture of how the elephant braces attach to the tower bolts?

I am worried that the brace may only attach to one of the rear tower bolts.
Or does anyone know if they attach to a bracket like the Tarett Engineering brace?

(Randyweb, sorry for the novice in me coming out, but what does IIRC mean?)

It's called an "avatar". Go to your user cp and you can adjust your profile. There are a selection of avatars or you can make your own .gif out of a favourite photo and a photo program. I think it's 50x50 pixles.

Indeed it does attached to one of the camber plate. Why does this cause you concern?

Chuck,

I was just concerned about all the load transferred through one bolt instead of spreading the load across more of the strut tower.

I see. The load really isn't that great. The single bolt is plenty strong to handle it.

Chuck, If I bought the triangulated brace, could I just install the horizontal brace for now until I worked up the courage to take to the car with a drill?
Or is the basic brace different from the horizontal on the triangulated?

jtkz has the newer version with black anodizing.

Yes, you can install just the horizontal piece. Then add the diagonal at a later date. No problem.

Chuck - I can't remember, but can one adapt the diagonal piece to a different make of strut bar; a Weltmeister in my case.

Thanks.

Well - guess what - I save that post by Tyson and another snippet too.

So here is what 2 experts think (or thought at some unspecified point in the past):

Tyson - is the 3 way Rennline strut brace your favorite?
And would that apply to an early car - like a '73 - that is street driven only?

Tyson:
It's my favorite for power brake booster cars that also need a tighter chassis. So a '77 and newer Targa or Cabriolet are perfect candidates for this brace.

For pre-'77 cars, or later cars with a cage, I like the Elephant
Racing triangulated brace.

Wevo's Camber King is a great brace if you're looking for an extremely lightweight kit that incorporates upper strut mounts that give more negative camber for Track and Autocross.

Steve Weiner:
Many years ago, I tried one of the Stable Energies triangulated bars and I could not tell a difference between that one and a simple cross-brace such as the Factory RSR or the other aftermarket ones.

I have not sampled one of Chuck's Elephant Racing ones.

I can tell you that the 935's X-brace (along with the crossbar) makes a big difference.....
