HELP--Hood shocks won't extend--hood only opens half way!

Mounted front hood shock (bought from Pelican at GAF), but it only extends/opens hood half way!?!. I'm unable to manually extend it, and actually had to mount it with hood half closed, but after mounting, hood closes OK, but won't go up all the way.
I know this ain't Rocket Science, but what am i doing wrong?
btw, this was the passenger side, with old worn shock still on driver side.

thanks

hood shock

Hood shock mounted upside down?

When OFF the car, does it extend fully or did you measure it against the overall length against the one you replaced?

Maybe ya got the wrong shock.....a short shock gets ya no where with the chicks....%^B

I "think" the rear deck lid shocks are shorter BTW.....maybe ya gots a rear on the front.

strictly guesswork here...do the longnose & shortnose car use different shocks? Maybe you got the wrong ones?

Thanks for tips so far....
1) not upside down
2) original one has a fully extended inside piston section--not sure if my new one is just not fully extended. The outer 'cylinder' section of both new and old are of SAME length, so i'm assuming the new one *should* extend further, but it doesn't.

Any more tips/ideas?
Keep 'em coming

thanks

they are all fully extended when there is pressure in them. just try collapsing one by hand. rears on the front.

Sounds Like you got the rear strut in the front

Ya, I'm giving a vote for the diagnosis of decklid shock on the hood...

Extend it, measure it and compare it to your decklid shock at full extension. I bet you it's the same...

Should be no difference in long and short hoods as the pivot point is the same.

Use that "hood strut" and make a dual strut for the rear deck lid to hold the spoiler and buy another "correct" front hood strut

Wayne - you listening?

So, concensus is, i got the 'wrong' shocks. Shocks were purchased at the Pelican Booth at German Auto Fest this last month.
Since i had just replaced my rear dual shocks w/ Weltmeister 'lifetime' shocks, i won't be needing new rear shocks anytime soon.

Wayne--i live 5 min from PP, can i exchange my 'incorrect' shocks for correct ones?

thanks

You probably already are doing this, but I'd suggest: Call the customer service line. You'll be taken care of (hopefully). I'm pretty sure Wayne doesn't monitor every thread. He's no Santa Claus ;-)

From my experience, Pelican goes above and beyond in rectifying problems, or incorrect goods. I ordered a Clewett wire set in the spring. I needed a custom coil wire and they sent the wrong one. They had a replacement out to me in no time, with no hassle.

Give them a call. I'm sure they'll straighten things out.
