they can be pulled out , they are seated with an o-ring... no thread...
you possibly need new o-rings to get them to seat properly when reinstalling. frankly , with CIS , not much you can do with the injectors, you could have them cleaned with ultrasonic stuff but usually , best thing to do is simply run a tank with Techron added to the fuel... very effectvie with CIS injection

You can buy the fuel injector removal tool from Pelican's or you can use a short blade screw driver, place it between the intake runner and the injector line nut and pry it pushing down the screw driver. Is mor easy to use 2 screw divers to take out the injectors, but sometimes is difficult because lack of free movement. But you can do it with one. Just try. Also wet the injector base with lubricant. This will help. When you will install the injectors, lubricate the o-ring and the injector bungs at the runner with petroleum jelly (vaseline). This will easy the installation.

Remove the fuel line from the top of the injector. Put a large nut on the threads on the top end of the injector. Then use a large
screwdriver to lever the injector out of the manifold. I have tried two of the injector removal tools and found that the nut/screwdriver method works better and easier.

Damian911,
The plastic sleeves also have an O Ring on them. My plastic sleeves were toast, and the o rings hard and dried out, but my car is 8 years older than yours. Replacing them with the intake runners off the car was easy. It would more of a pain with them in the car. Rex

Sometimes the bakelite sleeves are brittle and when you pull the injectors out, the sleeves crack and break. Then you have no choice but to replace them which can be a PITA. Sometimes they will come out with the injectors also.
If I were to pull injectors that haven't been out in a long time, I would also plan to replace the sleeves as a matter of GP. The sleeves have o-rings on the OD as well as on the OD of the injectors. If the o-rings are toast or the sleves are cracked you get vacuum leaks. That sux. The best way I have found to get the sleeves out (if they don't come out on the injector) is to grind the 3 small stakes off and find a tap that almost fits into the sleeve. Run the tap into the sleeve and then grab it with vice grips or whatever and pull. Make darned good and sure you don't get crap into the intake. Bad doo-doo. I had one sleeve that was crumbling. I tied a very small piece of rag onto a thin piece of stainless tie wire and stuffing it down the hole. Then I busted up the sleeve and pulled out as much as I could, then used a pnuematic (venturi style) vacuum cleaner to suck out the rest before pulling the rag. CAUTION: don't use a shop vac or anything like that if there is any chance you could expose it to flammable fumes. If there are gas fumes in the intake tract a shop vac could go boom. Worse doo-doo. On a good/bad scale that would definitely be down near the bottom. One other trick I've used to getting CIS injectors out that are stuck, go to a junk yard and get a brained stainless steel fuel line off a CIS VW or 914 or whatever. Screw it onto the injector and use it to pull or pry with. If you set up a lever on the line you can get a whole bunch of force. |

You add it to the gasoline - Costco has a deal on a six pack.

The trick is to pry straight up; spray WD-40 on the O-rings before prying/pulling. Do not damage the threads.
You can try to soak the injectors for a day in a small can filled with Injector Cleaner. Get a Bentley manual if you haven't got one already. Good luck.

Quote:
The 12mm catches the underside of the 14mm hose retaining nut and the 17mm is large enough for the injector and o-ring to pass through. Took all of 5 minutes to get them all out. I have the injectors soaking in a mixture of Lucas fuel treatment and CRC carburetor cleaner all in a small can that is sitting on a ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. Three of the six injectors were completely plugged and the tips were covered in some kind of old fuel/oil sludge.
