RX7 cooler sizing/flow
 

1) Its one thing putting bigger fittings on the RX7 competition cooler but is the restriction to flow compatible with a 3.2 scavenge pump? How does its restriction compare to other coolers (Setrab, B & B)?

2) Will this cooler take dash 16 fittings?

The RX7 cooler may be ok for the smaller engines but it's not up to the task for a 3.6 up.

My recommendation is to buy an Elephant fender mount or B&B front mount.

When you say "not up to it" is this from a cooling argument or is there a concern that the cooler is too restrictive and might damage the pump?

My need is for a 3.2 application. Do you feel it would be OK for this?

imho- marginal if the car is being used on the track. For street use in cooler climes it would be okay. You have to make sure the oe thermostat valve is removed and that bypass hole is blocked. -12 fittings can be welded on to the tanks so adequate flow is achieved. another trick is to remove the aluminum turbolator fins inside the passageways while the end tank is removed< amy feel it is restricting flow. Rotaries have relatively low volume flow. For all the work you need to do with a used cheap cooler, i agree with Bill, get a new B+B. they have several options available inc a thick core model.

I've used the RX7 for 15 years with my 2.7 (with 2.7 pump) and dash 12 fittings with no problem in S. Cal in the summer. In fact the temp barely rises. (Won PCA GGR class 3 times). So I'm not too concerned about the cooler not being able to handle the additional heat requirements between the 2.7 and 3.2. I'm more concerned with enough flow thru the circuit.
