Are car-covers OK to use on a wet car?

I got reassigned to a new location in the Bay Area which doesn't have a covered parking.

With rain starting soon, I am thinking of buying a car-cover to put on the car and protect her throughout the day.

This means that if driven in the rain in the morning, the cover would go on a wet car...for the full day

Is this a good idea?

Thanks

not a good idea, i only cover a clean, dry car... and indoors. outside the wind blowing can make it scratch

The biggest thing is dirt. if you drive it in the rain in the morning it will have dirt on it, and you don't want that between the paint and the cover. in this case I would put sun protection in the front/rear windows and maybe have the windows tinted. Alternatively, if it is a targa, there are covers for just the top half that would be OK to use after rain. If you have cleaned the car since it was driven in rain, and the cover is clean (I wash my cotton one in a regular washer/drier), then you could probably use it outside without major incident, as long as it's not windy and dusty.

how nice is your paint now?

Buy a cheap "work car"...let it suffer the abuses of the daily commute & parking lots...

Tyvek cover tout the fact that a wet car can dry when using their covers. However, they're not designed for outdoor use...that I know of.

Dear Pelicanite fellows, we heard you...
...I will drive the SUV when it rains...and my wife will get to drive the 911 if needed (and it shouldn't be much needed).

Thanks for all the inputs...
...we didn't want to mess us the paint which is in a pretty good shape!

Don't do it, I covered my 1988 a few years ago and it killed the paint. I just had a complete re-paint because of it.
