Wiring harness aftermarket?
Is there anyone out there that sells a new wiring harness for the front and rear end of the car, mine looks so old and tired. Who knows?
thanks, K. Roman

Mine looked a sad sight when I initially removed it from the car too. Here in Africa there is no sense in even thinking of a new harness, so I had to bite the bullet and sort it out myself. All it took was a bit of patience, three rolls of fabric-based insulation tape, a couple of new connectors, some harnessing wire, and "hey-presto!", as good as new!
Total cost couldn't have been more than about $30, and it took me no more than a day. In general the harness only deteriorates in areas of extreme heat, or exposure to the elements, so in all the only wiring that had to be replaced was the two short harnesses that go out to the headlamps, and a couple of wires around the engine compartment - the rest of the harness looked bad, only on account of the tattered and dity original insulation wrap. At the same time I also replaced the old fuseboxes with a set of new "blade" type fuseholders, as well as installed new/additional relays.

Has anyone rewired a whole car? I may buy from www.ynzyesterdaysparts.com and was wondering how difficult it will be. I think having the car on a rotisserie will make things a little easier but I'm really wondering if this wiring kit will include all the connectors and such for the turn signals, etc.

I believe they are complete down to the connectors, unless you have dual-ignition RSR stuff. You might call them to verify before spending big bucks.
How easy is it? About as easy as summoning the will power to take a utility knife to the back of your hands. EVERYTHING must be documented with a camera, so you don't get the wires mixed up. Sure, the wiring diagram is helpful, but it doesn't say which terminal is which, only which connects to which. I have never rewired a whole car, just both ends, and it's time consuming and frustrating to do it right. Which shouldn't deter you from doing it, just make you aware that it's probably a couple weekend process.

I just called them up and they were very helpful. They actually have a manual the harnesses come with. The wires are all numbered and the manual lets you know where everything goes. The sales lady said that the owner is a Porsche fanatic and would give me a call monday to help figure out what will be best to buy, a '65 harness or an '82 harness...since I have a 3.0L installed. They even have a help line while your in the car stuck in a jam...What a service!
BTW, The quote was 450 for the fuse box to headlamp harness, 1400 for the dash to taillight harness.

YnZ's Yesterdays Parts
So, although they only catalog up to 1973 RSR - YnZ's can do more recent harnesses? Like 1980? And?

So, how much was a harness for a 1980? Was that the WHOLE thing or just the engine wiring harness?
