She's got lots of potential. It's been a lot of work, and I got a bit more to go before she's gonna get on the streets, and many many more things to do to make her into a real nice, solid, driveable car.

I'm enjoying working on it. All the little steps are bringing me much satisfaction. Driving her will bring me a lot more!

Update 12-4

Work is progressing on Stinky!

Got two coats of POR15 on the gas tank:

I'm gonna primer it and use some spray on undercoating on the bottom, then probably just paint the top black.

I got the driveshafts on yesterday... man, that left my arms TIRED! Today I backed her out of the garage to clean the engine a little bit. It's much cleaner, but still pretty dang dirty. I got new seals/gaskets for the breather, thermostat and pressure sender, and already had valve cover gaskets, so I'm gonna try to get those in either tomorrow or next weekend.

The brakes are bled and have good pressure. I swapped the seats around on the frames, (I put them in backwards because the lifters to slide them back and forth were sticking out between the seats, impeding the hand throttle and heater levers. They leaned kinda outward when I did that) and now they feel straight. Also got the shifter bushings in (took them from the coupe, since I replaced them in that car earlier this year). Need to adjust them.

The list of things to do is getting real real short! I might get everything back in her and try to get her started next weekend! I'm excited!

Here's one while she was in the driveway:

Matt, beautiful job on the tank! did you spray the 15 on or use a brush?

FrayAdjacent911 12-05-2005 07:53 AM

Shaun, I brushed it on. It ends up flattening out pretty nicely on the smooth areas. There was a bit of surface rust on a couple areas which still looked a little rough. Overall, the gas tank looks 500% better!

Work has progressed! I changed the breather gasket, the thermostat O ring, and all of the valve cover gaskets. I also reinstalled the carburetors with new gaskets after cleaning them up a bit. (Maybe a carb rebuild is down the road... but not now)

(ETA: When I removed the pass side lower valve cover, about a half to a full cup of water came out!! I know the engine isn't hydrolocked, as I was able to turn it by hand, but it has me a little worried. Should I pull the plugs and rotate the engine a few revs? Any precautionary measures would be helpful!)

The gas tank needed a little touchup on the bottom where some of the POR15 was scratched off from being on the bench. Next weekend, if the weather isn't crap, I'm gonna go get some primer and some spray on undercoating on it.

Some other odds and ends are the wiring, replacing the soft fuel lines, installing the clutch cable and trying to make it work without falling out of it's 'anchor' on the tranny. I also have a couple other little odds and ends, but I think, with a good weekend of work, I might be able to get Stinky started and driving before Christmas!
