Question Sound Blanket

I am going to replace my sound blanket. Should I go with the OEM or the new foil blanket? How does the foil blanket attach?

I went with the OEM, the newer material is much more durable than the older sound pad.

I just removed my sound pad. I had replaced it a few years ago and it was in good shape, but I decided I didn't need it and didn't want it.

Pulled mine out prior to the engine rebuild, for it was disintegrated anyway, from heat and age. Once the engine was out for the rebuild, cleaned and painted the engine compantmewnt, and put in an OEM blanket, and it is purty and neat. It is pre-cut, the correct shape, and it is black, thus doesn't draw attention to it. It is only a sound blanket, by gum.

Without it you will have a louder passenger compartment, and your kids will complain that they are hot when they sit in the jump seats.

Since Superman is, well, super, he won't care about the noise and the heat. But my lil' darlings do!!!!!

I'm presuming you're talking about the sound pad in the engine compartment, not the sound matting under the rear seats and shelf.

I just replaced mine as well and also went with the new OEM engine sound pad (available from our host). Like Kurt V & Andras, nice and neat.

I used the 3M super adhesive (spray) that is designed to hold up to high temps (bought it locally at an auto paint supply shop).

Relatively easy install since the engine was out (Tom Ammon was replacing my clutch at the time). Think it could be quite the B%%ch is the engine was still in.

There are 4-5 metal tabs at the top edge of the engine compartment that also provide some support to holding the pad in place. Would assume the aftermarket foil pads need to be glued in as well.

I used the foil one. The one i used before that I got from our host was a foam material and not very durable. The foil one went in easily and we shall see about durability. I used spray contact cement to install.
