Ultimate Streetable Porsche?
Understanding that everyone has their own opinion, what is the best Porsche for street purposes? By "street" I mean daily driver/weekend twisty road warrior. The question really is....as close to stock as possible, what is your favorite everyday Porsche?
I think we need rules: 1) Car must have a near-stock appearance. 2) Car must not have performance upgrades (i.e., suspension, engine, chip, etc.) more than $5,000. 3) Personal mods are o.k. (i.e., steering wheel, seats, wheels/tires, etc.), but not completely overboard. 4) Just give your reasons for your pick, please do not put down other opinions or other cars. 5) Car must have a price tag from the factory less than $120,000, give or take. This should be interesting. ![]()

For $120k, I'd start with a narrow body 993 C4. 3.8 conversion and/or supercharger. Short gears. Uprated center diff. Big brakes. Moderate lightening while keeping it street-friendly. With AWD, I'd think that 6-8lbs/hp would be about right in a street car. Aim for 350-400HP and 2800 lbs. |

As a daily it even has utility with the hatch back, etc. Last of the 924/944/951 line, the ultimate 4 banger with turbo. You may not like to admit it, but it was an incredible car. Flame away!

REMEMBER GUYS.. THEY HAVE TO BE STOCK!
I say there are two cars for this.. ( given that I am going on they HAVE to be US spec cars.. other wise I'd two other Porsche.. one being a 92 Carrera RS and the other being a GT3RS.. ) but here are my US cars.. 1st being a option delete 78SC.... or a 2004 GT3 one or the other.. The SC I'd put 951 8" and 9" rear and cover them in RA1's... I'd also have a MOMO Mod .07 and a set of Recaro Poles in it. ![]() The 2nd being a 04 GT3 and the same changes.. Recaro Poles and a MOMO mod.07. these would be perfect Canyon carvers.. for under 100K ![]() those are my cars i'd have.. Eric ![]()

Please stop RallyJon. The fun is to present cars that are near-stock. Extensive modifications have been discussed many times over, but the near-stock Porsche has not. Please do not try to hijack the thread. Thanks.

Well, at a lower price range I'd say 3.2L, but at $120k, I guess I'd have to go with GT3

Another vote for the GT3. Style, character and performance in a "stock" package.

amir - you bounced over the 5k mod budget with your wish list- unless you can find a cherry GT2 for less than 110k- then I'm with you!

Hmm, "from the factory" leaves itself open to interpretation. The market value of a new/used GT2 (less than 2500 miles) is a little less than 75% the Porsche MSRP. So if we're going by MSRP ("from the factory"???), a lot of cars will not meet the $120K cutoff.
This makes it all the more obvious that the choice is clearly a low-option (make that zero option, so $99,500 MSRP) 996 GT3, BBS Motorsport wheels / r-compounds, tequipment bar, GT3 seats, harnesses. IMHO, you want the latest car with all the creature comforts that you can afford for a daily driver sports car. A car that is imported by PorscheNA and can be purchased at the dealer with factory warranty would also be crucial for me. I need a good 6-7 years and god-willing I'll be in this exact position, pondering these questions. Hopefully the budget can be stretched for a late 997 GT2.

Isn't this easy?
964.... backdated to an SC, duh. ![]() Daily driver up to 120k, probably just a nice 996 Turbo or GT3. I know that the 993s are favored, but I have a feeling the 996s would be an easier drive. Not that I mind my SC daily, so they'd all work for me. Heck, maybe I'll go off the deep end here and say Cayenne Turbo. ![]()

I will contribute.
I won't say it is the ultimate Porsche for everyone, but my car is perfect for my needs at this time. I don't race, but I do drive spiritedly on the weekends, yet I drive it to work on a daily basis. The ride is compliant and corners very well. Lowered nicely, but not too low where I hit everything on the road. Shifting is smooth and power is more than enough for me. I have all the creature comforts of a newer car, yet the feel of a classic 911. Details: 1992 C2 wth factory optioned paint and factory RSA style tail (installed by dealer/Eurotech one month after sale). H&R springs, 993 turbo wheels, RS sway bars, primary bypass, Pole Position seats, 993 RS steering wheel, audio system. So, it is close to stock. MSRP: $68,000 Performance extras: much less than $5,000 Other mods: a few thousand. Ultimate for most people: I may have to go with the GT3, although I have never driven one, but it appears to be a great car. My car is on the left: ![]()

So you created this thread to affirm your choice of car?
