hey Guys,
That is my car!! I live down in San Diego and the photos are at Qualcomm. Our very own "Ted" was riding with me during most of those shots! Thanks for the props and kind words! Here's the list of mods. I've got more photos than I know what to do with. Let me know if you want something specific. Body · Turbo metal flares, front and rear – butt welded. · Paint was bare-metal, two stage BMW titanium silver. Interior, trunk and engine bay painted in Silver, as well. · Fiberglass Hood, Bumpers, Ducktail all TRE products · The tub has also been modified with TRE’s pan modification to allow more air flow behind the oil cooler. Suspension · Front – lengthened a-arms (+15mm), raised (30mm), gusseted spindles on Bilstein struts, Tarett, annodized adjustable sway bar, 21mm Torsion Bars, Tarett offset monoball camber plates, Tarett polished AL strut tower brace. Elephant racing control arm poly-bronze bushings and ER control arm mounts. · Rear – ER torsion bar polybronze bushings, ER, monoballs, 30mm Torsion Bars, custom valved Bilstein shocks, Tarett adjustable sway bar Wheels · Front – 17x9.5 - 2 piece, BBS barrel with welded 16” Fuchs center made by Mike Lindsey. Wheels are finished in rough media blasted, RSR style finish. 255x40 Kumho MX street tires are currently installed. · Rear – 17x11 same as front w/ 285 40 Kumho MX street tires Brakes · 1986 rebuilt Carrera calipers and rotors, new 19mm master cylinder and braided stainless soft lines Engine · stock 1986 Carrera 3.2L. Exhaust is upgraded to Ssi’s and a sport, lightweight, stainless, dual outlet muffler. DME has been upgraded with a Steve Wong chip tuned for my exhaust setup. Power is conservatively 12 to 20 HP above stock with those two upgrades. Magnecore wires. Added lightweight, high-torque starter. Installed Wevo mounts Transmission · 1986 915 transmission. I’ve upgraded the shifter by adding all new shift bushings, including the coupler, and a gate-shift kit so the shifter is pre-loaded to return to the 3-4 shift plane. The 915 shifter has been blue-printed, as well. Installed Porsche sport transmission mounts. Oil system · I added a 72 row Mocal oil cooler inside of the front bumper by fabricating custom mounts, due to extreme space restrictions inside of the bumper. I plumbed all of the braided stainless lines and thermostat. Interior · SPARCO Evo 2 seats w/ custom fabricated lightweight mounts, harnesses, RSR rollbar – installed with welded-in base mounts, RS Perlon carpet with rear seat delete. Delete ventilation system, except defrost. SPARCO Ring, steering wheel and quick release hub. Rebuilt pedal cluster and Rennline Annodized AL floorboard and matching dead pedal. Sun-visor delete. Electrical · Removed extra wiring to save weight. Stripped wiring harness down to necessary circuits, only. Trunk · Relocated battery to smuggler’s box. Built custom stainless battery box and built custom wiring harness for moving the battery. Fuel system · Braided stainless lines throughout Ride height, weight and steering · Ride height is set very low, probably 1” below Euro. The car is setup for mix of street and track, but more towards track. Steering features custom turbo tie-rods, which are lengthened due to the control arms. Installed bump-steer kit and setup for zero geometry change between 1” above and 1” below ride height. · Corner balanced by Jae at Mirage International · Weighed at corner balance with 4 gallons of fuel at 2180 lbs.

That's Doug W's (DW SD) beautiful RSR clone. He's a fellow San Diegan like myself.
That's a great website. Thanks for the link!

Damn Doug, that's an awesome ride. I see you've been hiding all the progress from us
![]() If you don't mind, could you post, or email, pics of the front oil cooler mounts/install/pan modifications? thanks.

Dave,
This is the 72 row aluminum Mocal cooler. I'll take some photos of the cooler install. I did a bunch of cutting and sanding inside the bumper to make room. I had to cut off the cooler mounts and fabricate my own because the mounts were too tall to fit inside the bumper. It was a bit of work. I actually use "feet" welded to the bottom corners of the cooler which are bolted to the bottom of the bumper. It was the only way I could make the cooler fit, there isn't an additinoal 1/8" of room left over. The bumper is very sturdy however and I've got some miles and time on the setup - it is working. The top is retained by a steel bracket which is soft mounted to the chassis with rubber bushings. The bracket wraps around the top of the cooler kind of like radiator mounts which you've seen in the past. BTW - I did post progress reports along the way. They begin in March and conclude in a month or so back of this year. Just didn't generate a lot of traffic. Here's a few recent photos in a more peaceful setting:

BTW, if anyone is interested - this driving school (where many of the shots are taken) is outstanding and open to all PCA members. It is only $275 for the whole weekend, all day Sat / Sunday with book work on Friday night. That also includes food and drinks. It is really an excellent value with a LOT of seat time. I had a blast!!
Note how the track is wet in some of the photos. They have a water truck dumping soapy water on the track so the cars get loose without as much speed or tire wear. I'd recommend it to anyone in Southern California. Thanks to everyone for your nice comments! Doug

sheezz Doug you are a rock star, that guy took a bunch of pics of your car.
I did get the opportunity to instruct Doug in his RSR. His car felt very familiar as he had recently installed torsions, asb's and revalved shocks from my white 911. After a fun day Sunday instructing Doug he insisted I drive it for a 15 minute session at the end of the day! I responded by arranging a ride for him in the clubs AX TTOD 3.6 powered rocket. Fun car to drive thanks Doug. see ya the track, garage or in PS. ![]() and Erik as for "Nice! car... Do you know how to drive it"?? Doug was a quick study, did very very well and certainly is in tune with his and his car's limits. Last edited by ted; 11-03-2005 at 12:10 PM.. |

Wheels are from www.lindseyracing.com . Ask for Mike, if you are serious. Lead time is two months. Many others around here have them. Ted's (above) are similar, but three piece I think (bolted together) and made by Jae from Mirage International (I believe).
