new project - to buy or not to buy?!!!!

Hi,

So my Porsche illness going on, I found several months ago again special car:
Porsche 911S Targa from 1969.
As some of you know that I just finishing my 911S from 1971 -now only carpets and recover Recaro seats and is finished.
We was in contact he was under high suprised how I restore my 911 so start to be in contact but wihout any idea about buing or selling his car.
And last week old man who is owner of 69 Targa come back to me and said that he need to sell his car as fast as possible and he don't like to sell it for parts so coming to me and we start to talking. Finally we agree that he will take my 914 as part exchange and some money as well.
We should sign papers today.
Of course such occasion comes like always in right time (as I not plan any car investment and have budget close till enf of the year). So from one side I am very interesting and happy and from second side headache about money.
But how to not solve another early 911?
Some words about condition of the car.
First it is 90 % complete and with rebuild engine (spent a lot of money for engine rebuild last year)
Second and it will cost me some work (money...) body modification (Fiske style fenders front and rear spoiler) I only happy that it wasn't popular body modification very popular in '80 means modification to SC body.
So I have some work with body but let say it is S so I could invest some money and time to rescue this beauty.
>>Just owner call me and we will meet in 30 minute in my office.
From second side I don't need two 911S targa so If any body will be interesting about buying it or exchange for any other 911 (maybe E or s coupe) could be interesting to me.
I like to rebuild it to factory specification to as new standard as I made with me 911S so see my treads how I do it 911 reincarnation and if you like to have new 911S Targa made by me I am open.
Otherwise I should open Porsche museum....
Will post some pics if finaly I have it. (hope so..)

So I should change tread subject now as I paid downpayment and at 17.00 o'clock I will have car in my garage.
Of course will make photo session and publish here. So hope that I make right decision.

So ...... I have new baby in garage. Now is 20.20 and I bought bottle of California vine to celebrate new project.
I also happy as I make part exchange with 914 bought in 2000 ( as time shows it was misunderstanding)
Here you are some pics taken 13.10.05 when I inspected this car.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1131393714.jpg

as you see some modification and not correct upgrades on, but solid panels and excellent interior make this car as super basis to restoration.

tomorrow some fresh pictures as well

i have never seen such modifications before

and...

Tommy,
You can make a lot of profit fixing and then selling these cars over in the US. ;)

Tomy, how big are those rear flares? They look wider than 930, or maybe they are just shaped differently. ?

Lukesportsman 11-07-2005 03:22 PM

Is it just the photos are is she a little shy of rubber for such big fenders? I guess they easily could have changed the rims a few times since those sexy flares were added.

At least it didn't have SC bumpers added, just the trimmed blacked out and flag mirrors. Good luck with her.....she's in better hands now.

So I find some more pics taken in October and will put it here.
This is funny car as it has many modification witch could be easy taken out. And it is my benefit. From second side I will need probably 2 front fenders 2 rear fenders and all rockers to come back to original shape. All chrome are black now - will see if it will be possible to rescue or I need to buy new (probably will need to buy)
But inside looks good only front seats are from 74 model but everything else is good shape -even all weatherstrips are new as well as all carpets are new two. -so several 100 bucks in pocket, oh rims are in excellent condition no scrates at all too. But body work will be huge. So new challenge coming.
I should finished my pastelblau Targa in winter. So probably will start witch this project somehow in Winter http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1131436181.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1131436197.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1131436218.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1131436236.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1131436254.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1131436278.jpg

Great find Tommy. The modifications aren't so drastic. This car should be rather easy to return to stock form.

High dollar items like the dash, leather steering wheel, H1s and door pockets are there and look good. I see it has the original deep sixes as well. Rebuilt motor. You diffenently made the right choice getting this car.

The items you need like the bumpers and rear flares are rather cheap compared to the important ones that came with the car.

So some news : what is with this car:

As you seen it has deep 15" x6" rims in very good condition.
It was last 9 months in barn in rather humidity condition so it is in same places some rust but it is not a problem as I like to rebuild body.
Let see:
1.Engine it has original S engine rebuild 3 years ago -an only 500 km after rebuilding -so let say *****
2.It has Weber carbs instead Mechanical injection
3.Trany - I don't know but works good
4.Electricity - so some "modification"find should be carefully checked and back to standard shape.
5.suspension at first look and drive -work good will see when I will take off it in future.
6.body - no question you see how it looks
7.interior let say 50/50 it has not original seats (from 74-78 car) but from second side perfect pockets (*****) and perfect dashboards as well as good steering wheel
8.all chrome paint black (------) will have work and money .

So it was short inspection.
I oblige myself to not even look too often in to this car as I need to finished my pastelblau Targa first.
So I count that I will start this project somehow in January.

Tommy,

I actually have a 69'S MFI setup that I was getting ready to put on ebay. It needs rebuilding however. I was hoping to get atleast $750 for it. You could sale the Webers for that much but the system would need to be rebuilt so figure $2000 in rebuild costs. ($1000 for the injection pump and $1000 for the throttle bodies)

It includes the S stacks, throttle bodies, aluminum lines, crossbar and injection pump. All from a 69S. You would still need the pulleys and injectors.

I imagine your pretty strapped for cash right now but let me know if you would like to buy the setup.

Tomy 11-10-2005 02:49 PM

Hi,

Bobboloo Yes yes I am out of money now so like to have MFI but not right now.
I have 2 sets of rebuild Zenits for sale will see whats happen.
Still cant look at those funny fenders- they are at least 6" and have big lips.
Yesterday night I start this car for while and make short drive on my office closed roads.
engine works perfect, rear wheels blocked by clogged breaks (remember it was in the barn last days)
It takes me 15 minuets to wake up engine as I clean all points, cables connectors and use booster for battery to start up. So several times and start.
But when I trying put in back to garage it stop and I cant start again. Looks that is something with ignition as I cant hear CD unit sound .
It was so late so I will see on Saturday what is happen.
But suspension, engine,gears, works great.
It will be some work on it as it is some modification in wires so I only could partly use electric documentation. But I now why I bought this car. ...
