1970 911E Targa Photos

Following are photos of my 911.

This is a well documented 53K mile original car.
The paint is ok, but tired so my quandary is.... Keep it original or paint it.

Runs and drives perfectly, partly due to the excellent advice given here. Thank you all again!

Best Wishes, Ron Y

When you have an old, original car like that in such good condition, you should really keep it the way it is... It looks like the paint is in really good condition.

If you do change anything on it, you may want to limit it to things you can undo or put back to original. The car will be worth more the more original it is.

Gorgeous car, Ron. Don't paint it, since as Matt said, it's worth more in it's current state.

How long have you had it?

Matt & Dave: Thanks for your thoughts.

It is nice but the paint was somewhat oxidized and tired. I have tried various cleaners and waxes and it does look pretty nice now. It will never look like new, but it is quite presentable.

It is not perfect having minor rust issues in both door jams and one headlight bucket that have been treated with preservatives for now.
Repairing these areas may require some paintwork.

For now I plan to leave it alone.

It was delivered with dealer undercoating and I believe this played a big role in preserving it. The undercarriage is nice.

It also has a few "Updates" such as Hydro-stops on the tensioners. A dealer converted the self leveling hydro shocks to regular shocks and installed adjustable units all the way around.

I pulled the compressor and condenser, which was leaking. The parts are stored in case someone in the future wants to repair the AC system.

Dave: I acquired it about six months ago from a neighbor who had it "Stored" in his barn for many, many, years.
He asked me each year to help him get it started, which I gladly did as I then had the opportunity to drive it!

Finally, after many years he simply asked me one day if I wanted it. We worked out a deal and it now lives one garage down the road at my house.

The wife and I took it on a 700 mile trip and we had a blast!

Thanks,
Ron

BTW, I did join the NJPCA.

Ron,
Why don't you look into having it wet sanded and polished. If the paint isn't worn thin, it should come out looking almost brand new. It was a normal thing by owners to have the self leveling front suspension converted to regular shocks, so don't worry about that. You might see if you can clean up & treat some of the rust places and coat them with POR-15. If they aren't bad, that should help to keep it from speading. But, you'll have to always be vigilant and look for potential rust places forming.

I agree: with an original car like this, a call to John Paterek is in order.

Great car ! I say keep it as is.

I second the suggestion to have the car wet/color sanded.
Just had this done by my body shop guys on my 70E.
The paint was in fine shape, from a 7 year old re-paint,
but a bit hazy/rough in spots and some orange peel.
After having the car wet-sanded
it looks amazing...mirror shine & smooth as glass.
Your car will look showroom new if this is done right

ps: If you have this done to your car, I would cover the
engine with a large towel,...as compond/wax flecks &
runoff will get all over the engine thru the grill opening
It a cleaning process I would not like to do again !

I will call John Paterek this week. They are only a few miles from me.
Gene from ******** gave it a checkup and issued a clean bill of health.
Very nice guy with a superb shop! I wish my garage was as clean as his facility.
