Steering wheel 'play'
I have an '85 911 Targa and noticed yesterday that my steering wheel feels 'loose' - not in terms of turning, but in terms of moving the steering wheel up & down and sideways. Sort of like having a tilt steering wheel with about 0.5 - 0.75" play...
Is there a bushing somewhere that needs to be replaced? Thanks, ken

I know this one!
Yes, there is a plastic bushing inside the steering column that deteriorates. Pelican sells a replacement metal one that slides in and will cure the wobbly wheel. Pelican also has a tech article on the procedure in the tech section on this site. I was able to fix my steering wheel wobble. As I learned this is a common problem. Just make sure you put the steering wheel back on in the exact same position.
