help!?

I need to know if anyone has made a 923 tranny work with a 78 or later engine and 911.

I have a rebuilt 1976 912e tranny that I purchased through ebay that was advertised as a 915 for a 911. I have been researching this and have a handle on the reality of what it is and is not. I was intending to buy a rebuilt 7/31 r&p tranny to install in my 82SC. I have confronted the seller about this discrepency and he assures me it will function with just a clutch disc for a 901 tranny. I have installed the tranny and disc. I had to modify the bracketry to accept the 82SC clutch actuating mechanism. Now when the clutch pedal is pressed the fork arm rubs the pressure plate before it fully releases. So far I have not been able to get the seller to refund my money.

Has anyone actually made this work or should I just ebay the tranny and start over.

Thanks for your help JW

I've never heard of a 923 transmission.

whats a 923

I had never heard of it either. I purchased what was advertised as a 915 for a 911 but I got a 915 for a 912 1976e wichis also called the 923 as it was the discount model wich proceeded the 924. It looks identical but the input shaft is a narrow 24 tooth from a 901 tranny. I got ripped. The guy I ebayed from is convinced it will work if I use a 901 clutch disc, but I have figure out there are more problems than that. He claims lots of people have put them in, so I'm hoping if anyone has they can tell me how.

My understanding is these transmissions are pretty rare and desireable.

"Pretty rare as there were only 2099 made and are pretty sought after. Its is a 915 tranny with an early 901 input shaft and is oriented for the push style clutch. So it would be a nice stout setup for an early car."

Use the search feature and you will find lots of information.

Thanks for the help everyone,
At this point it looks like I'll be sending both trannies to a rebuilder. Ill have the short r&p pulled out of the 912 unit and put in my factory unit and then have my factory unit rebuilt. The rebuilder may purchase the remaining 912 parts from me and leave me paying labor. He promises quick turn around and I'm sick of playing with trannies. I wish the seller had advertised it as what it is and saved me a lot of headaches.
