rear speakers question

Just got my 87 911 and have a speaker question. rear speakers do not work. wires going to them look new but po put in a new in dash cd player and only fronts work. How can I test if wires in rear are connected to the new stereo. The speakers in rear are original and paper cones are crumbling. Also does anyone know speakers which would fit in rear? I bought some sonys. They are right size but depth is problem. Very shallow back there. Also I connected 1 speaker and no luck I do not know if i did it correctly.

To put rear speakers in you need to pull the rear deck. There are a couple of screws holding it in and a tab between the two back rests that require the piece to be lifted to release the tab. Once the tab has been pulled up the whole rear deck/back rest may be removed. Take out the old speakers and cut out some of the insulation where the speakers fit for extra clearance. You may have room to bottom mount the new speakers. If not, you'll need to cut out the screens to allow a top mount. The problem with top mount is the new speakers may not cover the holes in the rear deck so you have to have it recovered (mine is at an upholstry shop right now being recovered).
