Help A Knob Fix His 911

First I am not being modest in saying I have, at best, average mechanical skills. But Pelicans have coached me through two engine drops and a clutch R&R on my '85 Carrera. Every thing worked out and no injuries.

Now I am trying to diagnose a cruise control issue that I have not seen described in any of the threads I've searched. My cc engages ok and will hold speed for 2 or 3 minutes but then it starts to "wander". It kicks the throttle and we speed up a few MPH, and then we lift off and repeat. I am guessing the problem is the controller. Several of the other threads suggested the vacuum lines to the actuator be looked at. I've checked these and they seem ok. Nothing has been disturbed back there since this problem developed.

Just wanted to know if anyone has had this problem and if the problem ended up being the controller.

That sounds about right to me...If it was vacuum lines or the diaphram, it would hold speed for a few seconds and then bleed off.

If you have someone you can borrow a controller from, you can verify your suspicions. Controller is located under the dash, below the radio, I believe. They swap out rather easily.
Cheers,
Paul

Thanks Paul, is it located there on your '87? I have seen some threads where people talk about it being in the front trunk on the Carrera's

In the Bentley manual it says the cruise control module is located below the radio under the dash for 84-89.
