moving battery

i am curious about how to move my battery from the front to the back. Do i have to put in a sealed box? or anything else? PS I am not asking about a 911 but a bmw 2002tii the only reason i am asking in this forum is because i am more likely to get a reply.

Thank you

Evan

Use a nice battery box. Hunt them down on the internet. You will run one long positive cable from the old location to the new. Marine battery boxes are great, often. The process is kind of like wiring the 911 only reverse. Trunk and battery location vs. engine would flip flop. Ensure there are nice grounds at either end and then a heavy positive cable between the battery and the starter.

Add a remote, positive, isolated terminal connector at the old battery location. I think Smart Racing has them. Make the old connections accordingly. Ground throughout the car will remain ground as long as you clean up and pick a good spot to attach the new ground from the battery.

Should be straightforward. Use rubber grommets anytime a cable goes through sheet metal or anything which would "chafe".

Some folks use welding cable because of it's cross-sectional dimensions and it's more flexible than ordinary battery cable. But primarily - bigger cable = less voltage drop.

Is this for weight and/or weight balance? A lightweight Odessey might suffice and save on the add'l cost/weight of long battery cable.
