First IROC Series

Are the first IROC series races (1973-74) available on videotape or DVD? I remember watching these as a kid with my dad and brothers and seeing some of the competitors struggling to be, well, competitive. Who were the first-season television commentators, Jackie Stewart and Chris Economaki? I'd like to hear what they said whenever somebody got loose in a turn.

Yes. Still available. $25 plus $6.50 shipping.

You can order by calling 800.722.8630 or 630.515.1440.

You can also use the Secure Order Form on www.motorsportcollector.com.

No affiliation, just ordered a DVD a year ago. Quality is crappy, but you can see what is going on. Clearly mastered off a very old VHS tape of "Wide World of Sports"

I've got one of those DVD's and they're great. The best part is the oh-so-hip soundtrack they used http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/dazzler1.gif , especially when they were "fast forwarding" over the highlights of the 2nd race.

I just ordered this as a gift for my wife to give me. Can't wait to watch this.

Does anyone have a short clip of this to see what is being purchased?

Jon, the way the person on the phone explained it, the DVD has all the races of the first IROC series, as shown on the original broadcast.

You can call the 800 number (1-800-722-8630) to get specific answers. The guy there was helpful.

Jon; It's basically a DVD/CD with the ABC Wide World of Sports coverage of the first IROC series -- without commercials. But it's got the (standard for the time) poor picture quality, sound, commentary as well as the music track.

I've found it to be worth the money as far as being a time capsule of the first event.

If someone can explain how to do a clip I'd be happy to do it to ley Jon and other interested party see what the thing looks like.

At $30 or so it is 1/2 the price of a race ticket and worth every penny to see those cars and the way they drove them.

The Audio isn't bad. In fact i even heard AJ's missed shift that put him out of one of the races (I won't say which race)

As I sad above, worth every penny.

My son and I just watched the DVD. It's totally cool. Lots of very good racing and an excellent time trip back to 1973-74. Mark Donohue and Peter Revson were very impressive. The duel between Revson and Bobby Unser in the Daytona finale is superb. George Follmer had some good outings in the series, too, but some bad luck.

Chris Economaki's pre-final-race interview question to Mark Donohue was prophetic. Something like, "Mark, a lot of drivers say they're retiring and then come back. Are you really retiring from racing?"

Another great Economaki question came during the finale when George Follmer was forced out because of mechanical issues. Economaki: "You're the second mad driver to get out of your car. What went wrong?" A.J. was the first "mad" driver.

The interview with Unser and Revson after the Daytona race was great, with insights into strategy that also reveal that the two were having a lot of fun dicing it out all the way to the end.
