Type 934...please save my $$$
OK so the one owner black on black never to be sold 300+HP turbocharged 78 911SC Targa needs paint. I know, I know I drive it so the front fenders, hood, valence and so on.....
So here are the options: 1) Paint it... as is. Boring....Paint and labor only. $$?? 2) Convert it and paint it but not to any common 930, Turbo widebody lookalike. Do a custom 934...Turbo Targa!!! FR: 11" 934 flares from AIR 934-3412 17x9.5 Fuchs conversions from Lindsey Racing 275x40x17 Yokohama AVS Sports Valence - AIR 934-3401 for 11" with ducts, oil cooler, intercooler... Rockers - for 11s and 14s from GT-Racing RR: 14" 934 flares from AIR 934-3419 17x11 Fuchs conversions from Lindsey Racing 315x35x17 Yokohama AVS Sports 14" RSR style bumper from GT-Racing Paint and labor plus about $4500 in wheels/tires/fglass. If you can't help me save the money then advise whether the wheel combos will even fit 11s and 14s. Should I go 15s in the rear?? Before I get the sawszall out... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1131750853.jpg |
Just my opinion, but I don't think 934 and Targa should be used in the same sentence. Your car looks great the way it is, a sleeper. Running massive rubber (at least 14" rims and 335s in the rear) will dull the responsiveness you now feel in your engine and suspension. It will be less fun to drive when you can no longer blow the tires away at will.

Hey Man,
Were can I get all the stuff done for $4500 bucks! I have a bunch of cars to send this place for that kind of money. I hope it aint Paint-N-Bake! I am with RarlyL8 a Targa isn't best. But hell its your car make it the way YOU want it. ;) It may be really cool man!:D I have been known to do some wild stuff.:) SmileWavy |
Don...I think he is talking about the price of parts...then an additional $6 grand for paint and body. =o) I agree with RarlyL8 that you should keep the sleeper look. Although a cabriolet turbo body would be nice!

That could mean having to lower CRs from 8.5:1 to maybe 6.5:1 and getting back to the motor and pumping it up some more. |

I am right about the responsiveness. When I want to have riotous fun in my car I swap out the 315/18s and put on the 255/15s from my truck (the Sonoma with the Fuchs). SMOKIN!!
You are on a very slippery slope. Big tires = big traction = add more power = broken parts. My SC started out life just as your car, a narrow body. I hopped up the 3.0L to 225HP and then did the widebody conversion. The 255/45-15 fronts and 345/35-15 rears pulled the power down and made the car feel heavy. Then I added the modded turbo motor. WOW. Back to tearing up the tires. Then I added 255/35-18s front and 315/30-18s rear with sticky tires. Lost my gearing advantage with the shorter tires = no more wheel spin = see my thread on damage to my 915. Your car, do what you wish. Just the facts Ma'am. ;) |
Thad, im excited.
