Oil temperature vs. cylinder head temperature...
In your opinion, which is more important to monitor, oil or cylinder head temperature?
If your answer is "cylinder head temperature," why didn't Porsche equip their cars with a cylinder head temperature gauge? Thanks all. ![]()

I would say that if you are only going to monitor ONE temperature, then oil temp is better. This is because any temp increase anywhere in the engine (any of six heads, etc.) will be seen in the oil temp increase, while cyl head temp will generally only monitor one or two at most points on the engine, not indicating single cylinder problems in the other 5 or 4 areas of interest, plus the rest of the engine = bottom end, pump, etc..
