What should be my next mod/upgrade? :-)

Consensus on next set of mods:

http://www.tonygarcia.org/911SC/tail/small/1.jpg

Subject Car: 1982 911SC

Interior/Gauges/Dash: Full 993
Exterior: Repainted in original color
Transmission: new 1/2 syncros
Engine: Very expensive top end/studs/valve-train/PMO/SSI/Web Cams, etc... 200RWHP
Suspension Stock w/New Bilstein Sports Front/Rear
Wheels: Factory 930 7"x9" Fuchs
Brakes: Stock

Mod In-The-Works: I've already purchased a 1997 3.6L which just had finished substantial cylinder head port work, cams, valve train, twin plug, crank-fire ignition, headers, light weight flywheel/clutch setup and 50mm PMO Carbs.

Given this... what would you do if it were your car as the next set of upgrades (money no object).

I'm considering a 930 wide body setup, OR, a RUF setup, OR simply adding the front/rear fiberglass bumper/valance setup used on many cars that see track duty.

OR... do nothing? (what good is the car then?)

With the big engine on the way, I think you need big brakes and of course 17" wheels for the bigger big brakes. That will giv eyou lots of grip and stopping power.

Track time????

adomakin 11-11-2005 11:52 PM

id go with brakes, a good cage and suspension. then, if you wwant to go wide later, its just body and wheels

drsimonwong 11-12-2005 12:11 AM

Brakes.

jmz 11-12-2005 05:07 AM

Much bigger t-bars and brakes. I'd leave the body stock if possible.

jmz 11-12-2005 05:08 AM

smog????

efhughes3 11-12-2005 05:18 AM

Man, it sounds like this car is pretty well sorted. I'd seriously think about getting a car needing some major TLC (no rust), and do the motor/widebody thing on that. Go for a real lightweight, good-looking car with serious power. You'd only be out the cost of whatever low $ car you pick up, and since you'd still have your current car, you can enjoy it.

Is that another 951 in the picture? What are your plans with her?

Pele911 11-12-2005 06:05 AM

What are you gonna do with your old engine? sell?

Zeke 11-12-2005 06:18 AM

Elephant Racing suspension components and some cooling kits for the front brakes.

Thanks for all of the replies! It would seem that suspension and brakes are the next order of business.

I've been checking out the suspension setups... I'll save those questions for another thread.

Here's a few replies to your replies.

One could never have enough of that. If I could only get paid driving...... :-)

I really want to keep the 16" Fuchs though. I love the classic Porsche look with those wheels on the SC.

>>>smog????<<<

$250 and the problem goes away.

Yep. Good eye! It's basically a 2.8L replica of my previous 951 with some added goodies.

Almost ready for the track! Should make 450RWHP all day.

Yep. It's listed in the classifieds here. If not... I'll stick it in my project 914....

It's a real nice setup if you know anybody interested.

try to grt a boxster calipers and 930 rotors they fit well under 16" wheels ;) , about the body get an IROC front bumper and, RUF rear bumper, aftermarket or 993 mirrors and maybe a nice 993 euro RS spoiler
my .02 C

KobaltBlau 11-14-2005 08:39 AM

Tony, do you use this car on the track much or mostly the 951?

I agree torsion bars (22/29 at least), smart racing sway bars, 930 brakes, and probably a front mount cooler, even with the current engine, certainly with the 3.6.

anzures, do you mean boxster S calipers? I didn't think regular boxster calipers would fit 930 rotors.

Yellowbird RS

I've got the big Mocal front mount oil cooler. Plus, I've got a '88 cooler with the fan and all the new pieces, which I never had a chance to mount in my car. Good thing eh?

Plus, I just bought a new lower valance w/o the holes for the fog lights and just had it painted to match. Again... it ain't even on the car and it's gotta go.

The fun never ends... :-)

I take the car on the track for fun and to simply learn how to drive a 911 at speed.

For serious track usage, the 951 is it.

However... all this could change with some real power in the 911.

I've been waiting on the suspension until I really knew what exactly the car would evolve to.

I didn't want the car to turn into race car with license plates and that is still "streetable" (I've had plenty of those and it gets old on the street).

Been there, done that.

Safety - roll cage IMO.

Great looking car. I wouldn't change a thing. And you don't need bigger brakes if it is for the street or occasional track use.
