throttle hanging up,what's in the tunnel?

I recently had the pleasure :D of having my throttle sticking wide open during a autocross, fortunately nothing was damaged other than flat spotting my front tires. So today I pulled the carpet, floor board and as I worked the throttle I noticed two things. One is the throttle pivot that the gas peddle linkage connects to needs a new bushing bad, it appears to be very worn. The second item is the throttle seems/sounds like it's hanging up in the tunnel, so what's in there? I would have thought this would be a one piece rod that goes to the end of the tunnel back by the engine? What could the rod/linkage be hanging up on? Do you think once the bushing in the throttle pivot is replaced this would fix this condition:confused: This is a safety issue I want resolved. Thanks

Aacelerator rod rides on plastic bushigs inside tunnel. Also check plastic bushings by transmission, where front-back motion changes to up-down. You will see a rod going up towards the engine. Pictures included... Lou

Good question... I bought it here, it was marked Turbo... When you look at the tubes there is two for the heater cables, two for the hand brake, one for the clutch cable, one for the vacuum line for the booster, and two fuel lines. One hole for the accelerator, one for the harness, another for the battery cable to starter and last hole for the speedo sender. I installed it on a 74. PO had butchered original tunnel while trying to replace fuel lines... Lou

most likely its just the bad bushings in the linkage by the transmission. use a silicone grease to lube it up because some of the petroleum type grease will cause the plastic bushings to swell and bind or eventually destroy the new bushings.
