Love the function. Have some problems with details though.
I keep breaking the nipples in the bleed bottles. ![]() Also, how do you clean up? The instructions recommend alcohol. Sorry--got soap and water, simple green, parts washer, etc, but alcohol? ![]() |

I can't help with the nipples, since I just use an old water bottle and a length of rubber tubing when I bleed mine. But as for cleaning, I use a bottle of rubbing alcohol. Pour it in, swirl it around, then drain it out.

John, you could try BSR products in Concord, NC they have bleed bottles we have used for years. Their phone number is 8004322798 Ask for Coolaid and tell him I sent ya. And a good alcohol based brake clean is good to clean them.

Rally Jon,
Can't help you with the nipples but for Alcohol, just go to your friendly autoparts store or nearby drugstore and look for Isopropyl Alcohol. Get 100% so it does not have any water in it.

I will just give you my cheap way to do it. Go to any sporting goods store and buy a water bottle with a built in straw coming up through the middle of the cap. Go to Home Depot and you can buy 10' of the clear plastic hose that fits just right over a brake nipple for a little under $3.00. Throw out the straw and just cut a 2' section of the hose and stick it in your bottle. Take some of your existing hose to match the size since Home Depot has a couple of different sizes. Works very well.

I just use old milk jugs.
BTW, I have found that it saves a lot of clean up time if you don't fill the pressure bleeder with brake fluid but just top off the brake fluid reservoir and refill when it gets low. So you are only using the pressure bleeder to apply pressure and nothing more. Then again I bleed my brakes about 4 times a year so the clean up is a PITA to me.

That's how I do it too, just use it for pressure, no fluid in the power bleeder tank.

Well, this time I was completely flushing the system, so I ran two whole bottles of RBF through. In that situation, not having to depressurize and refill all the time was a real convenience. I was also doing what Dan Byers suggested in this thread, and pumping the pedal while pressure bleeding.
Master cylinder bleed The only advantage to the Motive bleed bottles is that they're a closed system, with the tube going down inside the bottle so that no air can come back up the line. That's what the nipples are for--to connect the outside tube to the inside tube. Nice design, just need some work on materials... |
