Talking Interior work started 79SC

Hey everyone -

Finally had a couple of free days to get a start on my interior, had been concentrating on the engine up to this point , but with it finally done and a new WUR taking care of the cold starts I was able to spend a couple of half days on the interior refurb.

After two half days I am " half " done.... lol

I have the passenger side door panel installed, after removing the old one, I went with the AppBiz RS .

I have the passenger side seat in, this is one half of my $125.00 set of seats that I got of Epay, I am pretty happy with them and can't beat the price,

Here are some pic's , I will do the other side (driver's) on my next set of day's off, I hope...

Todd

Looks nice. Where did you get the door kits? I have a euro 78SC that would look nice with those interior doors.

Hi -

They came from AppBiz he sells his stuff on Ebay, just do a search under his name as seller or a search in the parts section for door panels and his stuff will come up.

Cant beat the quality.

Hey spiff -

The seats came off of Ebay the seller name is " Trendgear " he sells mostly Japanese inport stuff for the ricer crew.

The seats are made by a company called JDM and are the all leather version, he sells a combination seat made from leather and vinyl which is less expensive, he also sells seats with embroidered headrests with a couple different logo's and seats which have colored threading on them.

The seats were $ 285.00 a set delivered to my door via DHL

Hope this helps,

Todd

Todd, how do you like the seats? I am looking for similar type inexpensive seats for my '79 SC. Do they look cheap or do they look well finished?

Hey Tim -

I like the seats pretty well, they look well fairly well made for the price , they were only $125 a set , can't get much cheaper for the money but you have to add the shipping ($160.00).

They come shipped flat, in a large cardboard box wrapped in plastic, you just pull up on the rear tilt lever and the seat back snaps up into place, I will shoot some detail photos of the drivers seat before I install it on Monday and email them to you if you want me too ?

There is one area on the back at the bottom where the hog ring clips are holding the back down that could have been done better I guess, but you would have to turn the seat upside down to see it and the area is un-noticable when installed.

The biggest challenge visually is the size of these seats as compared to the factory ones, they are much larger overall, esp noted on the backs since the factory ones taper towards the head area,

They feel good and snug when you sit in them, the measurements on the Ebay add are misleading, it lists the bottom as 17 inches across the front, but this is the center only, the actual measurement across the bosters is 21.25 inches.

The install is tricky, the factory porsche seat sliders bolt on a pattern of just over 16 inches where these bolt on a pattern of 13.25 inches. The seats come with the sliders and all hardware included, I did not want to alter the factory mounting on my car so I made the mount from plate steel using the factory holes then drilled new holes in the steel and mounted the seats to it.

When I redo the carpet later I will look at droping the seats down some as they are slightly higher than the factory ones, I might even look at floor mounting them or something close to it.

Overall for the money if you want leather you cant beat $285 to your door for the set.

If you don't mind cloth I have found that Pep Boys has seats now, they are made by APC an inport car part company, seats look nice and come in four colors, you can pick up the set for under $150 bucks and no shipping costs, the black ones do not look to bad, I just did not want cloth.

Todd

PS... they match the AppBiz door panel material perfectly

Thanks for the info Todd, I will look into the Pepboys seats also, allthough we do not have one in our area anymore. I would love to see some more detail pics of your seats! I did my RS plush carpet, headliner and RS door panels this past winter (the carpet install job is no fun!) Here is a poorly exposed pic.

Hi Todd,
Thanks for the info as well. I just happened to have that those seats marked in ebay as well. It's good to get an impression from someone that actually has them. If you do get more detailed pics of the seat, I wouldn't mind them also. You're right - you can't beat the price of $285 for leather seats which I'm assuming you can use a proper harness with, if the quality is acceptable.

Hey Tim & Spiff

I will take you some detailed shot's and post them on this same topic on Moday, I am working all weekend and it is darkwhen I get home.

Tim that is the same carpet kit I am going to do, the AppBiz plush black RS , any pointers would be welcome.

I think they are decent for the price, but if you are thinking about auto cross or any other type track related event I would just save up for a " rated " race seat, like a Sparco, Corbeau or Momo.

These are good replacement for normal driving use or until you find a good deal on replacements.
