gloss or flat

Friend just purchased an '85 coupe, represented as totally original. Sure looks like it anyway. Only has 45,000 miles, seats and carpets sure appear to substantiate that, but the wheels are pretty glossy. I now find myself looking at the finish on the various cars I see, and there seems to be a large variation,..between really glossy to flat black. How would one know if the wheels had been refinished? And because our wheels are finished in black, is it your experience that the paint wears away quickly?

Just curious.
Rich

The black on fuchs oxidizes to a greyish white over time. Chances are someone did a little freshening up with a rattle can at some point.

I think factory black on the wheels is more like semi-gloss.
