Oil level gauge kaput after big red light install!

I recently installed the big red idiot oil pressure idiot light in place of my clock. I tapped into the lines to existing light and all worked fine.

Except....

I noticed that my oil level gauge no loner works. When the ignition is on the needle pegs the max and stays there until power is cut.

I checked behind the gauge and noted three male terminals and only two wires. After spending 30 minutes searching for the loose wire I checked the Haynes wiring diagram and it only shows two connections.

Has anyone else had this issue when installing this light. I wondered if the extra 3' of wire or bulb somehow upset the resistance in that circuit.

Or is my gauge just Kaput

Thanks
Sam

Not sure if its related to this but check the connectors on your oil tank. Mine fell off and it is pegged much like yours. It could be Murphy's Law kicking in...

Oil level gauge and idiot light are different circuits.
Check your connections.
Disconnetc the big idiot light and see what happens.

Checked my manual. Probably you are connecting the green white cable from the oil level gauge to the idiot light.
The oil pressure light switch also has a green white cable.
The problem could be there
Both cables are green white.

I know on most 911s that I have seen, the oil light has red and green wires. That is why I built the kit with red and green wires.

To be sure, remove the oil light from the cluster. The bulb on mid 80's Carreras have 2 green wires on one side and 2 red wires on the other side of the bulb.

If your car is different, please take a picture and send it to me, along with year and 911 model. I will then add it to the instructions.

Yes

This is how mine is - I wondered if it made any difference which green wire I used but it appears not. I noted that one of these wires loops to the level gauge hence the above resisitace question.
Thanks

yes

The oil pressure light has two terminals.

One with a red wire, the other has two green wires connected to it on a double male post. I have tried using each of these with no change. I also tried disconnecting the new light but there was no change.

This evening I will check the connections in the level gauge circuit.

Thanks
