rust tranny brake band

Just received by new 2nd gear brake band from PP today. It has some rust spots on it. I don't think it should be used and they have agreed to take it back. What are the opinions. Should I use it, send it back and get a new one, or send it back and just reuse my old one. To be honest the old one looks better than the new one. I can see no wear spots on the old band. Where would the old band show wear. This was the only part I was waiting on to put the tranny back togeather and only ordered it because I was replacing everything associated with 2nd gear. Here is the best picture I can get of the rusty spot.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not a tranny expert. In fact, I've never been inside a 915 gearbox.

That having been said, what you're showing looks like a bit of surface rust (at least on my monitor). Did you try cleaning it up with a little rust remover and some fine steel wool? My guess is that a little surface rust, properly cleaned, wouldn't do any harm.

I'm interested to hear what others have to say. It would be especially interesting if someone like John Walker were to see this thread and chime in!

Good luck with your rebuild. It sounds like you're going to be fine no matter what you do.
