Pick up this months EVO magazine.

I picked up this months issue of EVO and there is a very cool article comparing new and old sports cars. One of which is the new Cayman S vs a 95 993. There was a neat quote in there talking about despite weighing the same and having the same power the 10 year old 993 is extremely hard to shake. Anyway its a good read IMO and quite cool. Just passing this on.

And a video worth seeing at:

of a SR8 smashing a Nurburgring lap record.

Old sports cars? A 993?

I guess that makes my 1973 a real antique!

They said it was hard to shake on the straights but once they got into the twisties the Cayman pulled away.

They bought the 993 specifically with that Cayman test in mind. Jethro (the young road test editor) will be running it for maybe the next year. He seems a good guy - not yet really into Porsches but getting there. I talked to him about his modified M3 which is aiming for an 8 minute N'ring time. I won't spoil the fun by telling the result of that as the write up is in the latest Evo mag.

Evo are now taking all their test cars to WRC Technology for a dyno run and they will very shortly have corner scales so they can also report accurate corner weights. Pretty cool for a car mag. The staff all seem to be real hardcore car nuts. When I met Jethro at WRC they were running an MSport 130i and a new Golf R32 on the rollers. The Bimmer made 250hp (manufacturer claim 260hp) and the Golf made IIRC 220hp (manufacturer claim 246hp). Both cars had only done 1,000 miles. My modified 3.2 kicked their butts with 260hp on the rollers!!!
