Speaking of road trips
My buddy and I are planning on going to the Parade next year in Oregon. However, we live in central Florida so it is going to be a marathon trip. I'm wondering if any Pelicans have tackled a major journey like that before. Any suggestions or recollections would be appreciated.
We'll be going in this: ![]() Should help to make the trip a bit more interesting. We are looking into GPS receivers and other tech support as well. Happy T' day all!

Search RoninLB and "Big Ride" here. Your cross country trip is a drive to the corner store by comparison.

You might do a search on "ZOANAS" as well... He recently made a similar journey, and posted many cool pictures along the way!
I'm jealous... You will have an awesome journey!!!

GPS?
I've been a longtome fan of Garmin products, having owned a handheld for aviation use. I just logged onto their website the otherday for kicks, and they have an amazing array of handheld units for use in the car. They are moving map units, that are similar in size to a cell phone for under $300. Amazing, as I payed $1200 for my G195 unit 8 years ago, that is almost 5 times as big...

Yep, I'm the one tasked with researching the Garmin site for what we need. Should be fun.

Oh I don't think it's a question of need. Part of it is that we want to be able to take some side excursions and also periodically spend some time off the main roads. I hear they come in handy for that.

Make sure you get a gps that can do "nearest point of interest". I have the Navman ICN 550 Can't tell you how nice it is to click anywhere on the touchscreen map and be able to get the nearest gas statioin, atm, italian restaraunt, etc. The nearest gas station actually has it's own button. You can also buy a traffic module that receives traffic info over FM and will give you alternate routes to avoid traffic!
Anyways, have a great trip ![]()

So just how old are you? I'm 50 and I embrace the stuff. Hey, it's just a toy besides Garmin has an option that locates all the barn finds within 50 miles of your planned route

Hmmm barn finds .....well like I say I do not understand it all....53 yrs young might be too weird and too long to figure it all out .
Personally I luv the desert at night, take a sleep bag along and camp out on hwy 10 middle of no where and you will see a sky never b4 or never after to be for gotten. (look on your map and pick a spot about 100 mile free from towns. You will luv it and its free!!
