Does anyone know how much play to leave when adjusting front wheel bearings? "Just loose enough to move the washer with a flat blade screw driver". It seems Porsche would use a specific size feeler gauge. Has anyone through their own investigation come up with a ___MM amount?
thanks Charles |

I've tried the move the washer method without much success. I adjust mine like any other wheel bearing. I adjust to where I can just feel slight movement when rocking the wheel (12 and 6). It's a pain to take the wheel on/off to adjust, but I can't tell crap from the washer method.

AFAIK, you don't use the screw driver as a feeler gauge, you use it as leverage to move the thingie...

Right, you should be able to just move the washer w/ the blade of the screwdriver w/o having to lever it on anything.

I know you don't use a screw driver as a feeler gauge. You use a screw driver to push the washer from side to side. Trying to get the feel for how much pressure to use in moving the washer is the question.
That is why it seems Porsche would use a feeler gauge. Like .004,.008, etc, between the washer and the locking nut. |

It really has more to do with friction then gap. There really is no gap to measure, just how tightly the nut is snugged down on the washer.
