what offset for the MOST rubber? don't want to go 934 yet..
alright.. the turbo bit me in the a$s... almost ate a road sign.... full lock.. all that fun stuff..:roll-eyes:
so im thinking about more rubber (to supplement some bondurant :D ) right now i have 7\8's Fuchs with 205\50\16 and 225\50\16 cheap toyos.. and 300+hp... so what offset will 17's will give me the best chance at fitting the most rubber under an SC? I'm assuming i want to undershoot so i can add a small spacer to get it just right for my car.. the boss is PUSHING me for 934 fenders... but im resisting... |
8 and 9 x 17s with 235/255 are easy. I liked 225/255s more though.
Keep the stock brakes and you should be able to do Lindey's 17s in 8 and 9.5s. Better tires will make a difference as well. Personally I like 15s with 205/225s and lots of power on tap ;) |
your right... theres something fun about having alot more hp then rubber...its just... OOOO..ahhhh...
i don't want to loose the nimble-ness but there were a few time's during our run that i just couldn't get the power down! and you just pulled an easy car-length. i could used you 80% diff. thats for sure.. but I'm not looking to turn this thing into a lumbering beast for the back-road's (IE crag's car:D) but the turbo has demonstrated itself to be WAY harder to drive then then the 3.0 ever was..... a little more grip is just might be what im looking for... |
A l/s and 7 and 9s will hook you up. One of the reasons I dumped the 17s (both sets) was I liked how light the 16s are to spin up even with the short box.
I'd beg a ride/drive from 930 with 7 and 9s and see what you think. They'll have a l/s as well so that will tell you a bunch in a few minutes I suspect. One of the really fun rides was Alex's '72 with a 3.6 and 205/225 x15 SO3s but he also has a L/S and a short box as well and a primo suspension setup. Opposite lock was a hourly occurance. Not real practical but it was fun :D Couple of months and you'll be saying you want even more power. Just give it time! You'll tame that beast quickly with or without tires. |
I run 8 & 9 x 17" with 225s up front and 255s out back. Not a turbo SC, but lots of room
|
yea yea.. time to bum around and find a ride..
but ive been sideways more times then i would like to admit.. and i never had the rear of the car leap sideways that quickly... welcome to the world of turbo's huh?:D |
275s are probably max on a 9x17 rim under SC flares.
You're best bet is a posi unit. Your 255mm of rubber will instantly become 510mm. |
All the hot shoes I know take it to the track. You can have way more fun without threatening John Q Public or your insurance company when the inevitable tickets come your way.
Yeah, your tires and wheels are too small, even for the street. I run 225x16's up front with 245x16's in back. With your turbo even bigger in back. Dismounting soapbox. |
Nick, just a thought but you could add 245s to those 8's and drop in your choice of a L/S and see what you think.
You'll want the L/S in the long run anyway and people are always looking for 8" Fuchs. If that gets you close to what you want for a set up it would be worth trading for 9s and saving some coin short term. 17 wheels and tires could come later after more track time if you think they are needed. I am running is RA1s on Fuch 8s and 9s with the L/S. Craig's 3.6 ran 7 and 9s Fuchs ans a siimilar ZF l/s. We both were using 225/245 x 16s. Not turbos for sure but some ideas anyway. |
"You're best bet is a posi unit.""You'll want the L/S in the long run"
you guys are right. i guess thats another $1000+ to add to the want list. next time the need for tires comes around(at this rate next summer) i can spring for something bigger on the 8's... ill see how i am before shelling out the bucks for 9's back to geting it ready for track days... still need to figure out how to stop this thing:cool: |
Pagid orange....the noise shouldn't bother you :)
|
934 or 930 will use the same wheel sets. For a turbo bodied car I would want 255/40 x17 on 9s front and 315/35x 17 rear on 11s in back.
I don't have a good data set for turbo bodied cars so I would consult the wheel manufacturer for his recommendation. |
