Odometer and Oxygen Sensor Mileage Counter
Can anyone confirm whether there's a relationship between the odometer and the oxygen sensor mileage counter on an SC?
The problem: My speedo works, but the odometer does not. I've been inside my speedometer/odometer gauge and everything looks fine. No broken gears or anything. I removed the screw that retains the motor/worm gear to the odometer and tested the gear train. I can put mileage on or take it off easily by spinning the main drive gear that engages the worm gear. While I was in there, I rolled my odometer back to zeros across the board using a drill to turn the main drive gear. Anyway, my oxygen sensor mileage counter is unplugged. This is the gadget behind your speedo gauge. Does having this unplugged affect the regular odometer's operation? Also, do the electric odometer drive motors ever fail? What voltage could you apply to the motor to see if it works? What else can I check? The electronic stuff at the back of the speedo? By the way, the drive motor on the oxygen sensor mileage counter looks very similar to the one in the speedo unit. Are they swappable? |

I may have answered my own question. I re-connected the oxygen sensor mileage counter and reset the OXS dash light. This hasn't been hooked up since I've owned the car.
With that, the speedometer is working as it always has and the odometer is working now as well. |

For the record, I can confirm that there is no relationship between the function of the odometer and the oxygen sensor mileage counter. I drove my car this weekend with the OXS mileage counter connected and unconnected and either way it does not affect the odometer.
I don't know what I did to "fix" my car's odometer, but it's working now. Loose connection or something? |
