Pulley removal

I intend soon to replace my leaking pulley seal with the engine in the car/partially dropped. My question is what, if anything, I need to do to avoid turning the enging when I take an impact wrench to the bolt that holds the pulley in place. There are two holes in the pulley itself (the car is a '73). Is there a tool that fits these, or will I find a corresponding hole in the block that I can use to stick a screw driver or similar tool through one of the holes in the pulley to stop it from turning?

Please stop me before I do something stupid.

Impact wrench will zip the bolt off without rotating the crank. On the other hand you will need to figure out a way to lock the flywheel to torque the bolt back on. Or, prepare to be struck down by the Porsche Gods, you can also use the impact wrench to put the bolt back on. Don't tell anyone I told you that.

Any ideas on locking the flywheel without disconnecting the motor from the transmission? I'd hate to offend the relevant Gods with my irreverent use of an impact wrench.

If the axles/CV joints are still connected to the wheels and the brakes are intact then put the transmission in 5th gear and engage the parking brake.

This thread may also be of interest:

crank pulley bolt - washer or no washer

Note that if the pulley screw is of the 8.8 strength class it should only be tightened to 59 ft-lbs.

Perfect. Thanks for the extra tips--I will likely use them.
