Yeah, first engine drop, and my new jack
Yes, the first engine drop is just finished, and I did it alone. Well, I needed help from the wife to balance the engine on the way down. Every thing went smooth, thanks to my new AC floor Jack, the high lifter. Thanks to Wayne for his detailed descriptions in the 101 book, and thanks to everyone on this forum for many nice and informing engine drop threads.
I made a cart that i placed between the jack and the engine. This way the engine was already on the cart when I lowered it to the ground. Had some balance problems, because I wasn't paying attention when I positioned the jack. Here are the mandatory engine room pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A few questions if I may: The rear right engine mount was broken (maybe this is the cause of my shifting problems), but the surface of the fracture looks "new" with no rust. Is it possibe that it snaped when I tried to undo the mount bolt? I had to use considerable force using o 1,5 foot arm. What do you think? Is it possible to drive with only one rear mount without noticeing? Can I weld this, or should it be replaced? ![]() ![]() Also, there was an unattached electrical connector right behind the fuel distributor. Any idea what this is? ![]()

Well done. You will enjoy having that jack, wish I had one. As for the rear engine support, I am sure it could be welded but you might be better off looking for a salvage part in one piece.

Check out rennline design, they have a really nice looking replacement part that is not too ridiculously priced.

One reason why the engine mount may be still shiny, is that the two pieces were still rubbing together everytime the engine moves.
Very nice jack, that may be on my Christmas wish list! Joe A

Keith: Yes, I used i High torque impact wrench trying to undo the bolt. The bolt wouldn't move, but i got it moving by using al long arm on my 20mm socket. I think it snapped then.
Joe: Tha AC floor jack is fabulus. I wasn't even able to utilize its high lifting capability since my 930 front lip touched the ground. One surprise though; its very heavy compared to my other jacks. Close to 80 lbs!!

Replace that rear mount bar. Give PartsHeaven a call. I only twisted mine a little, but I replaced it.

Thanks for valuable input guys.
I was too tired last night, after the engine drop, to write about the background for the engine drop, so here comes: I haven't really been using the 930 for the last two years. Just some shorter road trips and no track driving (DE) at all. Third gear was pretty bad last time I whent track driving, grinding badly if I didn't pause the shifting for about a second. So I figured it was no point until I fixed it. SInce I started my own business abount two years ago, there have been no time for driving and no time for fixing and improving the 930. Now, however, the business is up and running good, and since I'm tired of working every night and every weekend, what better way to spend my "new" free time on than fixing the turbo? Anyway, tha plans are as follows: - Fix 2nd and 3rd gear synchros + + - New sport clutch - Stage 1 and 2 suspension upgrades described here based on Elephant Racing parts - New engine mounts crossbar and mounts (Wewo) (I don't know what to to with the transmission mount yet, as crossbar and mounts are one piece) - New plugs + wires + coil + dist. cap - General tidying of the engine and engine room
