Road Trip Ideas

Next summer some friends and i are planning on taking a road trip from the UK to Europe maybe taking in France, germany (stuttgart) and perhaps Switzerland.

Was wondering if anyone knows of any good driving roads and nice scenery, maybe in the mountains or just some good twisty's that we could visit en route.

Thanks chaps.

I'll chime in again....roads south of Munich and those leading to Austria....for example, Garmish-Partenkirchen area....

Let's see if GeorgeK, GeorgeM, and K9handler get-in on this thread too...

Enjoy your trip whatever you do !!!

It's a bit farther north and west of Stuttgart but it is the ultimate road...

How about the Nurburgring?

Ten years ago I did a fantastic drive from Munich south to Berchtesgaten in the Bavarian Alps. I can't remember the name of the road, but it was off the beaten path in the mountains, thickly wooded with hairpin turns and elevation changes. Not much traffic except for motorcycles, I think it was a club. The only downside was the car I was driving, an Opel Vectra, fully loaded w/4 people and a 1.1 liter engine. I squeezed everything I could out of it and it was still a blast.

You might want to look into some German mc clubs to see if they have some favorite roads they like to visit.

Try this web site for "10 Great European Drives":

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6895250/

I've been over 3 times. I recommend anything in Austria, Switzerland, Northern Italy, and the Black Forest area of Germany. Incedible roads and scenery. Summer isn't the best time to drive these roads. All of Europe is on vacation and the many tour buses hold up traffiic. While in Florence, I was told that in the summer, 2,000 buses A DAY come thru the city....
