My First Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

This is my very first one as a Porsche owner. It's been a couple of months since I purchased my 911, here is the obligatory picture of introduction. This is an 82 SC with 67,000 on the clock. The PO took great care of the car and it came with a ton of receipts. I picked it up in Minnesota and drove it back down to Florida with zero problems. An 1895 mile road trip is a wonderful way to get acquainted. Anyway, I’m glad to be here and look forward to the tremendous assistance this board provides.

Very thankful for the knowledge on this forum - and for the parts/products that Pelican offers.

Yea. Really nice looking car. Gorgeous color. Ya know...it always amazes me when I hear of a car as old as your or mine that has so few miles. 67,000 miles in 23 years. Incredible. That's only about 3,000 miles per year.

Welcome to the forum, btw. How's the weather down in South Florida? I'm in the Los Angeles area (my home area) but lived in Coral Springs for seven years from '92 to '99. I think that area will always be my spiritual second home. I miss the place some.

Hey Scott,

The low miles are indeed amazing. I don't think that I will be able to keep so few on it. It's a blast to drive!

The pic was taken today in Weston. It's a beautiful day down here. 78 degrees with just a few clouds in view. My kind of late fall day.

Need info

Very nice SC. I am also in the process of purchasing my first 911. I am looking out of state as well, and was wondering what is the process you went through to drive the car back to your home state, as far as tags and etc. Did you have to apply for a temp. tag from the state you bought it in, or did you just drive it back home with no tag. thanks in advance

Thanks to everyone.

Billy,

The PO left his tag on the car when I bought it. I didn't worry about getting a temp tag as I had the title which was signed over to me and a bill of sale in hand so if I had been stopped, it wouldn't have been a big deal. I just registered it in Florida this week so I have been driving around with an out of state tag for 2 months. The police have to verify the Vin before you can register an out of state car in FL and the officer who did it for me didn't bat an eye about the purchase date and the date I was getting it registered.

Here's some more pics.

Great looking car chris. Love the color. Also looks like it was well taken care of and one of the PO's changed some things around. The vallance doesn't look stock, turbo wing, modified exhaust and the calipers are painted. What else?

Nice car, sweet color, so much for the low milage. When I bought mine I had planed on it being a weekender and nice day car HA! I put more miles on SC than I do the daily driver.
Just make sure you have the pop-off valve and that the tentioners have been taken care of.
Welcome

Hey Rev,

You pretty much nailed the mods. Aside from the H4s, a custom sub enclosure under the drivers seat and an amp under the pax seat, the only other stuff that has been done has all been preventitive and repairs work. The studs have been replaced and the entire CIS system has been gone through (new injectors etc.). The tensioners have been updated, slotted rotors , new alternator, updated AC, new distributor, the list goes on and on. The PO handed me a folder with nearly $20,000 in receipts for parts and repairs that he had done in the 5 years that he had the car. The only thing that I want to do in the near future is to get the seat bottoms recovered. The backs are fine but the bottoms have cracked with age and a couple of seams have let go. It is in great shape and needs very little right now.

Chris

Ha! Famous last words! Let me be the one to tell ya, if you frequent this board and just get talked into one DE then the above statement will no longer apply. Regarding your car, sounds like a great find/starting point.

The car was located in MN so the PO was lucky if he got 4 months of driving in during the year. Most people have another car instead of just the PORSCHE. I'm lucky to put a 1000 miles on the garage queen each year, and half of those miles are traveling to car events.

82 SC Targa, third owner with just 56,000 plus mile on the car.

Hey Rev,

The operative term I used was "Right Now". Tomorrow as they say is another day. Get ready for the questions, I'm sure that there will be many in the days to come.
