the rennaire system

Has anyone installed this system before? If so , which port is for filling the freon? My compressor is on its side , suction on the bottom. this is where i connected my r134 . the compressor readings while uploading the freon were in the red so I stopped. thinking I can't be sure which one of these ports are the filler port, there is no stamped letter on either one.. Any ideas?

Always fill on the suction side (bigger). Also, keep the can right side up if drawing from the top of thr can. If you do not, you can slug (liquid lock)the compressor and damage it.

thanks H20 I'm not sure which is the suction side because the compressor doesn't say. In fact my new sanden didn't come with the adapters for r134 I bought them at the parts store. I'm guessing since the ports are parallel with the suc / disc. that the go together

All Sanden compressors have the suction and discharge marked "S" and 'D" respectively; the suction is the larger of the two ports. The smaller will be the discharge and the line/hose from it should lead to the the first condenser (usually underneath the back deck lid of a 911). The R-134a Sanden compressors do not have ports on the side for charging fittings. If the compressor you have does have ports or fittings on the side for charging then it is a R-12 unit which is okay provided it was properly converted for use with R-134a (correct oil and fittings). The charging fittings on a R-12 unit do line up with the back port fittings: high pressure (red color code in the R-134a fitting system) with the discharge and low pressure (blue) with the suction. Where did you get this compressor and what type of oil does it contain? How did you evacuate your system and how are you charging it? Do you know that 911 A/C systems should be charged with the back deck lid down and the engine running at 2000 rpm? Are you using a refrigeration harness? Have you worked on A/C systems before? Are you wearing safety goggles? If not, please stop and seek some experienced assistance. Automotive A/C systems can blind, maim or kill you if you do things incorrectly.

What Jim said, he's the God on this board on A/C systems.
