How to ?'s about shipping wheels to AL REED from Phoenix

I'm sure I can do a search and find out everything but sometimes it is more fun just to ask the question?

So here it goes:

1) I am thinking about having my wheels for my '82 sc cleaned up by AL REED, I wanted to get the lips and paddles polished and the inside painted black how much roughly would he charge?

2) Would I ship them with the tires on them?

3) How much to ship them and who do I use?

4) What would be the expected duration from time of shipping until I get them back, considering that he is in CA and I am in AZ?

Thanks for your help,

Tires OFF.....bubble wrap them, two to a box. Suggest having tire rack drop ship NEW tires out THERE, have them mounted and shipped back.

At least for the first time the tire mounter won't Fuch up yer newly finished Fuchs....

Oh yeah....call them and tell them yer sending them.

Rodney, I have a friend that has a tire shop so if you need tires taken off, new tires put on or boxes to ship the wheels, let me know. He is located in Chandler.

Rod,
I sent two sets of wheels to Al Reed. I got boxes from the UPS Store, approx. size 16X16X24. I put two (or three when he did 5 wheels in one set) in each box w/o tires. You can put cardboard between them and cut the box down as far as you need to to the top of the wheels & tape it. He'll put more padding in when he sends them back. I put a short note in each box telling Al what I wanted and my contact info. Shipping cost per box was around $35, if I remember right, and they arrived in two days. Al will probably call you. I was charged $75 for polishing & painting and $25 for clear coat on each wheel. Turn around was around two weeks, but I think he's really busy right now, so it might take a little longer. You can always call him about it. Good luck.

Thanks you guys for your help!

MikeZ, I fixed my signiture, thanks.

Okay, so basically, I will be without my wheels for about 3-4 weeks. I don't know if I can be without my Porsche for love and support for that long!

Anyone risky enough to try locally?

Call Al and ask him. If you have a time frame, he will do his best to help you out. Drop shipping tires to AR is smart and the shipping isn't that much more just over to AZ with mounted tires. If you are not buying new tires at this time, again, ask Al what is best.

Good advice! You might want to give a reasonable time frame. I didn't and it took 8 weeks to get them back over the summer.

Call him. He'll tell you how to ship them and how you want them. Also, return shipping is expensive due to insurance. The wheels are valuable. If you insure them for real value, it's big $$$.

You'll be very happy with the results!

i pulled into his shop on Monday afternoon. They pulled my wheels off and installed loaner fuchs.
I got a call on Thursday that my wheels were done, I stopped by on friday and picked them up.

It all depends on how busy his shop is and how much of a hurry you are in.
You should be asking Al these questions instead of us, he is much more helpful

You'll be very happy with Al Reed. I had some wheels done and they came out great, seems like they were more like 110 each or so.

Everytime I have been to Patrick Motorsports Jim the owner has a good guy to deal with but like with anyother shop YMMV.
