SpareTire- Fuched It Up

ok so there absolutely no reason to post this other than wanted to share a lil weekend project that i did. it was super fun and inexpensive and i kinda like the way it came out.

- 15x6 Fuch 50.00 at a swap meet

- 15x6 Fuch polished 50.00

- Carpet for the Trunk 40.00

- Fusecover SWAPMEET 3.00

- Paint Fusecover flatblack 3.50

- Paint trunk and gas tank 10.50 (3 rattlecans)

- Painted Jack flatblack

- 1 Valvestem Cap (3 were stolen and i kept the last one/ mounted it on the sparetire rim)

- Mounted collapsable tire on Fuch Rim 40.00 (40.00 tip) BTW i went to 7 different shops and no-one wanted to mount it for me... said it was IMPOSSIBLE to do... was mounted and help air no-problem!

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

alexander

About what I had planned too

Beautiful job...The valve stem caps are to be removed when you go to a place where they are suceptible to be stolen i.e. ....Everywhere...

the valve stem caps were next to impossible to find... those particular ones are not sold anymore... i found a place that had 3 sets left....

sooo i bought them.

in case they are stolen i can replace quite a few!

Had to be Al Reed since the car owner is in Costa Mesa, not too far from AR's shop. Al will polish for cheap if he knows you are on Pelican. He's done two sets for me, polish and paint for the easy money (cash).

well actually... i didnt take it to al reed,....... please keep in mind i bought this 15x6 at a swapmeet and it was in pretty sorry looking shape.... REALLY SORRY shape...... kinda was embarrassed with it....

i took it to a place called the wheel repair specialists on harbor right off of 405....... guy named jeff was super cool.

it came out 100 times better than i thought it might... and since it was going in the trunk and hopefully never to be used i wasnt worried about perfect polish, which it is not but it was perfect for what i was looking for.

Alexander, Most excellent. Very nice!

I plan on doing the same thing very soon. My car will be out of paint later this week and have already bought a very nice custom trunk carpet set. But I have a question:

Will any tire place dismount/remount the space saver spare from the OEM steel rim to the Fuch -without screwing either the Fuch or the tire?

EDIT: (Helps when I actually READ what you wrote! Sorry. So, where DID you finally get to do the dis/remount? An Independent shop?)

My space saver looks like it has never been inflated in 30 years....do you have to stretch the pee out of it to get it off the OEM rim?

hey dan!

i think we have talked a few times in the past.....

im happy to answer any questions,... have done doing your car.... i loved my lil project... i kept the trunk open just so i could see it as i walked in the garage... hehehe stupid i know.

thanks for the props... much appreciated.

as far as mounting... i had to go to quite a few shops before i came across one that would do it.... NO ONE EVEN WANTED TO TOUCH THE JOB,.... finally i went to another place and challenged his ego.... "so far i have been to 7 shops and no one has the balls to mount this badboy, do you?" hehehehe what could he say? at the end of the day, he came out and said just give my guy a 20.00 tip cash and lets call it a day.... i was so appreciative that the cat did it for me that i gave his guy 40.00 instead of 20.00 i think i may have made a friend...

also,.... i had not inflated my spare either.... cleaned it up and it was working just great... held air no problem...... looked good.

Yeah, I've got that "stupidity" too. I have this awesome (to me) trunk carpet - someone here on Pelican sells them & on Ebay too, Terry Oguinn, just cant remember his Pelican name - It has a lot of extra custom touches to it so it fits smoothly and even has a place for storage of extra bulbs, relays, etc. I ordered mine with the Porsche crest embroidered into it!

But depsite all that I have had the stupid idea of cutting it ( ) in such a way that when you open the hood you can see the polished spare in there. This is totally unimportant, of course. And I doubt I will cut htat nice carpet. I am just too anal to begin with and the 911 brings it out in me all the more.

Show us other pictures of the outside of your car.

Fuched it up

dan..... i think you are as nutso as me! how funny i had the

EXACT thought,.... i really liked the way the polished fuch came out and thought it was a shame to hide it under the carpet.... was thinking of cutting the carpet to show the wheel just as you said.... i need to come up with designs before going there...

i dont have a fancy carpet kit like you, its just a stock trunk carpet that in fantastical shape.... would be a shame to cut it....

now.... if i could find another center carpet piece i might be in business!!!!!! hehehe..... i need ideas....
