modular wheel advice

I have a set of 3-piece wheels that I want to powder coat. Before I start wrenching on the bolts that hold the wheel assembly together, are there any techniques, tips or procedures that I need to follow? I've tried a search on the tech forum for this subject but have come up empty on results.
Thanks,
Jim S.

Jim,

True 3 piece wheels usually have gaskets between the center section and outers. New gaskets will be needed if the seals are broken or they will most likely leak. You may also need to know the torque spec and pattern for the hardware. Paul

does your wheels have a gasket or silicone sealing them together? if silicone torque the bolts in a criss cross patern alternating the torque around the wheel until all are tight. once you have done this go around the wheels in a circle and check torque. once torqued you will need a good silicone and just lay it in the seem with a caulk gun making sure to get ever nook and crack. i normally go around the wheel several times laying caulk around the are. once you have enough squeezed into the centers take a bondo spreader and lightly go aound the areas smoothing it around the surface. let it cure 24-48 hrs. before installing tires and inflating. the same torque method is needed when a gasket is used. since you didnt list the size of the bolts i cant tell you the torque needed.....hope this helps....

Thanks for the replies.
The wheels are the "classic" 16 inch Gotti 3 piece. I can not see enough of the joint to determine if it is a gasket or silicon bead that maintains the airseal. If anyone out there knows any specifics on these type of wheels, I would very much like to understand the design and disassembly/reassembly procedures.
